The 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge right around the corner
The 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge will be kicking off from the 14th of February in Oslo, Norway. The event will be featuring a progressive slopestyle course for both the genders. A range of extremely talented riders will be taking on each other to win a
slice of the $100,000 prize purse, and more significantly the 1000 TTR World Ranking points on offer. The qualifications will be starting off from the 17th whereas the final will be held on the 19th. Both the male and female winners of the Oakley Arctic Challenge
will automatically qualify for the World Snowboarding Championships starting next year.
The Finnish Peetu Piiroinen, currently at top in the men’s TTR World Tour Rankings, will also be participating in the event and is expected to give it his all to seal the fate of this season. He is hoping to claim the title for the third time in a row and
asserting his dominance in the world of freestyle snowboarding. However, he will have to overcome a formidable line up in the upcoming 6Star event to clinch the 1000 Ranking points. This heavy competition includes the World No.5, Sebastien Toutant from Canada,
and his compatriot Marck Morris, who is currently World No. 6. Peetu himself has singled these two out as the major threats to his third Swatch TT World Tour Champion title. Peetu’s concerns are justified considering the recent success of Mark Morris at the
6Star Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck and Sebastien Toutant’s triumph in the 6Star O’Neil Evolution Slopestyle competition in January. Two more riders from the TTR Top 10, American Eric Willet, and Seppe Smits from Belgium, will also be participating in
the event.
America’s Jamie Anderson, currently leading in the women’s TTR World Tour Rankings, will be looking to secure herself even further by prevailing over her competitors in the upcoming 6Star to Oakley Arctic Challenge. Having bagged several victories already,
Jamie has a comfortable lead but she will be looking to bolster that lead. Even though she is the favourite in the upcoming contest, World No. 2 Cilka Sadar from Slovenia and World No.2 Sina Candrian cannot be ignored.
The Oakley Arctic Challenge is taking place at such a time when the Swatch TTR Tour is nearing its climax. To add to the significance, it happens to be a 6Star event, which means there would be a maximum of 1000 TTR Raking points for the grabs. With the
race so intense at the moment, every rider would be looking to win these points and secure their chances of getting crowned at the 6Star Burton US Open where the TTR World Tour ends next month. This is the last 6Star event left to take place before the final
6Star Burton US open in March.
