The 82nd AAU James E. Sullivan Award slated for March 2012
The James E. Sullivan is an esteemed award, which is annually presented to the top amateur athlete in USA.
The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is the governing body that conducts the evaluation process and honours the most deserving athlete with James E. Sullivan award. This year, the American Amateur Athletic Union is scheduled to announce the 82nd AAU James E.
Sullivan Award in the month of March.
The AAU James E. Sullivan Award, which is also referred to as the Oscar of sports awards, was first presented in 1930. Over the years, so many outstanding players have received recognition of their hard work by receiving James E. Sullivan Award.
An athlete of any sport with leadership qualities, strong character, and sportsmanship is eligible for the award. Moreover, players of both genders are entitled to this award.
Robert T. Jones was the first person, who settled for the first ever James E. Sullivan Award in 1930. It has been 80 years since the inception of the James E. Sullivan Award and during these years, players such as Wilma Rudolph (Athletics), Michael Phelps
(Swimming), Mark Spitz (Swimming), Greg Louganis (Diving), Shawn Johnson (Gymnastics), Jackie Joyner-Kersey (Athletics), Peyton Manning (Football), Michelle Kwan (Figure Skating), Jessica Long (Paralympian), Tim Tebow (Football), and many others have claimed
the honour. However, it is an irony that none of the indoor or beach volleyball players has clawed his way to the list of AAU honourees.
In 2010, Evan Lysacek, the American Figure Skater, claimed the prestigious 81st Annual AAU Sullivan Award. He grabbed much success and achievement during the regular season and emerged as the top amateur athlete of the country.
Once again, the moment is just around the corner when the top amateur athlete of USA will catch the limelight. The Amateur Athletic Union is busy working on the evaluation process of players. A public nomination for the best athletes is also running along
the way, where people in general can participate and nominate the players of their choice.
The 2012 award ceremony will be held at the New York Athletic Club. During the exclusive and impressive ceremony, the AAU Sullivan Committee will reveal the name of top American athlete.
Looking forward to witness the new James E. Sullivan Award holder.
