The U.S. Forces are typically divided into five Branches (Army Navy, Marine, Coast Guard, Air Force). And there are 5 sides to the Pentagon. Someone once told me or I read somewhere that each side or corner is associated with a particular branch. Is this true. If so which branch took the hit so to speak.

  1. I know youre looking to make some kind of "conspiracy", I just don't really see where youre going with it, as that particular part of the building was empty.

  2. I know that the Navy Command Center took a hit on NineEleven.  There was other damage of course, but being ex-Navy I remember that part of the damage.   I worked in that place for almost 4 years, but it was a long time before NineEleven!  When I worked in the Pentagon it was on the 4th floor, D Ring.  But that was a long, long time ago!

I seem to remember that there were areas that were mostly Army or mostly Navy or Air Force but that just made sense.  I don't think it had anything to do with how many sides the Pentagon had.  There are mixed commands too - all branches working together in one area.

  3. The Marines are still part of the Navy.  The Coast Guard is under Homeland Security.   The Air Force barely existed when ground was broken for the Pentagon.

I think whoever told you that each side is associated with a single branch is incorrect.

I think it is more likely that it was designed with five sides so that it could be a lasting memorial to that time honored military tradition known as Murphy's Law, and they therefore designed it as a square with an extra side.

  4. No, the Coast Guard is part of the Justice Department and are not at the Pentagon.  Also, the services are not broken up by wedges there.  They are all spread around the building.
