The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) recently announced individual honours for various players who played under the ACC in 2011. Senior outside hitter (OH) from Hurricanes Lane Carico, Duke's McCurdy, Van Noy of North Carolina, and Florida State's Poole got
lucky and settled for individual accolades. The official award ceremony was conducted on Monday, November 28, in Greensboro, North Carolina. The names of honourees are as followed:

Player of the Year - Lane Carico, Miami (the Hurricanes) Defensive Player of the Year - Ali McCurdy, Duke Freshman of the Year - Cameron Van Noy, North Carolina Coach of the Year - Chris Poole, Florida State coach
Additionally, the ACC also announced the 2011 All-ACC Team players and 2011 All-ACC Freshman Team players.
Player of the Year
The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native Carico spent a year full of success. She displayed great action on centre court and played a vital role in her team’s success. She supported the Hurricanes to close the regular season with a great win over Florida State.
The Hurricanes dominated the Seminoles with final score of 3-1. Carico was the most highlighted player of the match as she registered 29 kills with .410 hitting percentage. This was the highest number of kills that any player has had against Florida State
this year.
Carico proved her skills as a hitter and at the same time did a great job on defence. She helped the Hurricanes with 17 digs and settled for her 11th consecutive double-double in the season. Moreover, she added a season-high five blocks. On the
whole, Carico put up great effort for Hurricanes throughout the year and sincerely deserved this honour.
Defensive Player of the Year
Blue Devils’ defence expert and libero, Ali McCurdy, emerged as the third student-athlete to win the Defensive Player of the Year award after its inception in 2009. She settled for the honour on account of her amazing record of 5.17 digs per set in the season.
Last year, she settled for both the All-ACC and All-Freshman Teams, while this year she improved and got hold of the Player of the Year award.
Freshman of the Year
Middle blocker (MB) of the Tar Heels, Van Noy, captured the freshman of the Year award and became the first ever player from North Carolina University to receive this honour. She helped Tar Heels to a record of 22-8 and 14-5 in conference play. She was credited
with 1.28 blocks per set, the fourth highest rate in the conference. Furthermore, she also compiled 1.49 kills per set.
Coach of the Year
Pooles has been with Florida State for fourth season and in this short span of time, he picked up his second career Coach of the Year award at ACC 2011 awards. He enabled FSU to finish with 24-5 on the season. He is the second coach from FSU to win the award
after Cecile Reynaud won it in 1992 and then again in 2000.
