Question:

The ACT or the SAT?

I am thinking about taking the ACT after two not so pleasant experiences with the SAT, and it seems that the ACT I think I will be stronger on. I was wondering for some opinions on which one is better to take?

  1. I took the SAT three times...and then took the ACT and did much better.

No harm is giving it a shot. You never know until you try.

    Good luck!

  2. I took the pre-SAT and the SAT, but if I could do it again, or had to, I would take the ACT.  Almost everyone who took it while I took the SAT did better on the ACT.

  3. probably the ACT, because if you have already taken the SAT you can use those scores to apply for colleges.

  4. Take both and use the higher score.  Also some colleges like it better if you take both and score well.

  5. This really depends on your knowledge and your test taking style. I know that many people who take the SAT and get a low score, usually have a higher ACT score, but I am not sure if there is a strong correlation.

Here are some key differences between the two tests that you may consider when choosing:

-Math on the SAT only goes up to Algebra II, while ACT Math involves some Trigonometry/Pre-Calc.

-There is a science section on the ACT while the SAT doesn't.

-ACT has an optional essay (although it is required for most colleges anyway) and gives you more time to complete this essay and the ACT gives you more room (you can ask for additional sheets of paper). SAT's essay section is required and is limited to only two pages.

-There is no wrong answer penalty on the ACT compared to the SAT.

-The ACT is shorter than the SAT

  6. the SAT should be taken, the ACT is practically a book of tests/exams. SAT is just like 10-20pages of testings
