Surely Tasmanians have proved worthy of having their own team. You can argue the corporate dollar isn't there, but the days of major sponsors being based in a team's home town are long gone. Many sponsors now are global.

  1. yeh NT deserve a team

    they would KIK ***

easy you gotta admit aboriginies are better at footy than white men??

    tassies are just g*y =P

  2. like you said its all about the $

and it will give west coast another place to party when there are on the road

  3. i definately agree that itshould bebased in tas but the AFL sems scared to make it there frsme reason it definately has ben more intereste in qld fr sometime

  4. why not the goldcoast..

  5. I agree whats up with the AFL the Gold Coast has already been tried and failed, and I would rather have a shot at a Canberra team full time than go back a step by going to the gold coast again. If we are going to have extra teams we must go forward not back, and pick some where that hasn't had a team before even another regional area be it Newcastle, Bendigo, Ballarat even a big town in SA or WA would be a step forward. There are numerous places to try a team but going back twenty years is not the spot.

  6. It's all about what the sponsor wants. After all, they are the company that must have their name plastered all over the place for all to see. Look how Eddie McGuire latched on to Emirates. He wasn't going to have some pissy little hot dog manufacturer as a major sponsor.

"Why the Gold coast?'' It's the holiday capital, and the sponsor will undoubtedly get the exposure.

Millionaires  and high profile people from overseas will be in the corporate boxes.and there will no longer be the little supporter who barracks for the local footy team.

Big Andy is not going to puddle around with small fry, he is in the process of up-sizing his home so that it matches his high profile job. Similar to Formula 1.

  7. Darwin will never have a team based there. Too hot during the football season to play games there. Even pre-season the visiting teams suffer. They have extra reserves & ice packs to get through the game.

I'm in north Qld & it's too hot here. Tassie would be ideal, especially if the AFL were willing to spend 100 million bucks on getting the jangaroos to Gold Coast.

  8. Big Kev,

I just don't seem to know what Andrew the Rocket Scientist wants up at Carrara. Vic ex-pats moved there, maybe to enjoy the area, get away from Melbourne? I still think Andrew is making a post-AFL job push to take over his former side, North and make all the money he thinks he can at the Gold Coast. I don't think it is in Brayshaw's plan, but Andrew will make a power grab and leave James nothing with the side he loves.

Tassie or Darwin would be a better idea.

  9. yeh i reckon they should have one eam per state at least. tasmania should and so should th northern territory. they are just excluding part of our country.

its not like either states lack skill or support. if they had teams they could get other sponsors and they woulds be off

    i totally agree with you!!!

  10. As you say, the Corporate $ may not be there but the fans are and have been loyal. I'd love to see them with a side and yes the NT also. I have no problem with that. However I think the Gold Coast is still League territory on the whole and I don't think the support required to maintain a team there would be sustainable.

  11. okey-doke .. Firstly to all the state-siders attempting to answer this question ( and at the risk of setting of a public brawl as did a couple of aussie sailors in the USA recently) ... YOUR footballers simply do NOT have the BALLS to play our great game ... ALL that bloody padding ..

Now back to big Kev's Q.....

I'm with you Kev .. Tassie has given the game some brilliant footballers over the decades .. Time a little was given back to them ... .THE 17th team (if we must bloody well have one .. LOL could always Bring The ROY BOYS back into existance...) SHOULD be based in Tassie .. Not bloody QLD!!!

  12. Get a team from Montana or Wyoming. The unknown states!           =]

  13. Yeah i would have thought Tassie too, maybe it has something to do with the Gold coast has got all the facilities there already, and the head honchos want to set up another office there. Holidaying in the Gold Coast while saying there working. I think it's because the local government and the surronding areas of the Football ground have all given it the nod, maybe that's why the Gold Coast is being pushed so hard.

  14. $$$$$$$$$$ It's all about the dollars, there is no money in Tasmania and there will never be any in Darwin... but there always will be at the Gold Coast and with the Chargers & The Blaze NBL team doing well, the AFL doesn't want to be left behind

  15. I live on the coast and our preferences are pretty well split between AFL and NRL. The amout of Victorian immigrints living here are close to out numbering the true blue QLDer's.

All of the clubs on the coast are going well and there is plenty of local talent

  16. at least tassy is an aussie rules state, half the work is done for them, they dont have to convert the crowds.

i know there is a lot of people on the gold coast who are ex victorians but do they really want to go tp the footy, dont think they really care.

it didnt work last time, why would it this time.it is more aussie rules friendly than brisbane tho.

  17. make it 18 darwin & tassie get rid of pre season everyone playes each other twice home and away

no reason to have a team on the gold coast

  18. It's dumb, Andy wants to pull up a little, he has a huge job, he needs to take a step back for a minute, the hounds are hunting, same happened to Oakley and that last bloke, who's name escapes me.

just play each other twice, no pre season c**p and be done with it, only real fair way.

  19. The $

  20. I reckon a Tasmanian team is a good idea.

    Stuff the dollars.

It would be really good to bring Tasmania closer to us.I see them as outsiders, not in a meanish way though.

I'd love to see the Rivalry!!!!

You think Vic Vs NSW is bad, imagine a Vic vs Tas.lol

  21. I think the NT would make an awesome footy team Big Kev.

We have had so many good players come from there.

eg: Our very own Andy :))))

  22. It is the corporate dollar, but also population and resources come into it as well .   The Gold Coast is the tourist hub of Australia, while the Southport Sharks have a membership of

40,000, being one of the best supported Aussie rules clubs in Australia , playing in the QLDAFL.   No Tassy club could boast anywhere near half that, while  the QLD region certainly has far more to offer than the Industrial suburb of Nth Melbourne and Tasmania combined.    Sure its easy to say , the corporate dollar comes from off shore, but when you look say,at Collingwood's Partners for example, Emirates, Wizard, Lexus,Adidas.  host plus , McDonalds,Telstra, PFD foods, CUB, Bega, Origin, TAC, Crazy Johns, Coca Cola , Upstream and Hard Yakka, I stand corrected but its hard to imagine any of those business's outlaying funds to support footy in Tasmania, the returns would not, be there !

  23. how bout vermont   alls we have is the fricin lake monsters who come last in the standings each year!

  24. Exactly, Or even The Northern Territory should be the 17th team.
