Louis Oosthuizen grabs the Africa Open after tough playoff on Sunday.
Round one of the European Tour’s Africa Open began on the 6th of January and ended with Brandon Pieters leading the competitive cult. The second round ended with a three way tie at the top while the third concluded with
a joint lead of Markus Brier and Louis Oosthuizen.
As for the fourth round of the Africa Open, it ended after a three way play-off for the € 158,500 race on the 9th of January, 2011.
According to reports from East London GC, the ending hours of the tournament had been nothing less than an exhilarating show. At the first sudden death play-off, the South African enthralled his fans with a birdie putt from a distance
of 10 feet.
Sources say that the illustration was carried out at the par-four 18th hole and was against two of Oosthuizen’s competitors on the fields. The spirited list includes the likes of Chris Wood and Manuel Quiros representing
Britain and Spain.
A strife that initiated after July, the drama began when the 28-year-old golfer carded a 70 to stand against Wood and Quiros on the leaderboard. Wood and Quiros had a score of 68 and 69 in their score cards and were catering a
16 under the par in total.
The 28-year-old golfer is known as one of the British Open winners who succeeded in the event in the month of July 2010.
It was however, Oosthuizen’s last three pars that made way for the three-way playoff that eventually sided with the South African.
Oosthuizen favoured left of the rough with his shot but fortunately, the ball favoured the fairway more. He was playing his tee shot in the playoff and shot the ball towards the left when the ball swiftly decided to enter the fairway.
According to Oosthuizen, Zack Rasego did all the work for him. The three time winner of the European Tour said that his caddie’s biggest help to him was the enthusiasm he provided.
“He told me again and again the ball would go in and I listened to him” said Oosthuizen.
He added that his putter had been cold throughout the game but Rasego’s motivation was the only thing that kept him going. The South African made two remarkable putts due to the push; one at the 15th hole and the other
at the playoff.
“I grabbed an eagle at the 15th and then the other at the playoff, I’ll definitely remember that” He said.
As for Wood, he was one of the early few who managed to rule the leaderboard. He carded a minus 5 for the contention whereas Quiros had to card three birdies from the last hole to stand with the leading cult for a 276.
Oosthuizen carded a minus 3 after the day and collected 276 strokes in total.
