The African Volleyball Federation reveals venues of Continental Cup – Volleyball news
After much wait, the Confederation African de Volleyball (CAVB) finally revealed the venues of the upcoming men’s and women’s Beach Volleyball Continental Cup finals.
Top officials of CAVB and International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) gathered for an official meeting in Cairo, Egypt on Monday and came up with the decision that Mauritius and Rwanda will host the upcoming crucial finals of the Continental Cup.
It was the first big gathering of officials of African Sports Commission following the CEVB Congress, which held in 2011. FIVB Executive vice-president and CAVB president Amr Elwani, the Beach Volleyball Commission president Ayaovi Babanawo, the executive
director of CAVB Howyda Mondy, board supervisor Waithaka Kioni, and the beach director May Alaa were among the attendees of the meeting.
According the finalised plan, the men’s competition will be hosted by Mauritius from April 13 to 15, whereas the women’s competition will take centre stage from May 24-26 in Rwanda. The successful duos of the men’s and women’s finals will earn the tickets
to London 2012 Olympic Games.
The second place finishers of the CAVB Continental Beach Volleyball Cup finals will represent African Continent in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup, which is slated for June 2012. Italian shore city Tortoli will provide the backdrop for the Beach Volleyball
World Cup.
The best African teams will come into stride for the Olympic Tickets. The African Continental Cup, which was kicked off in 2010, will finally come to end and the top teams will get the chance to play at the Olympics.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, the CAVB also outlined plans for the upcoming African Junior and Youth Beach Volleyball Championships, which will serve as qualifiers for FIVB Junior and Youth Beach Volleyball World Cup. They did not disclose the venues
and schedule of the junior and youth competitions but it likely to be revealed soon.
This is the high time for finalists of the Continental Cup to prepare for the final test of their skill-sets. The competition will be tough and only one team per gender will advance to the Olympic Games. The Continental finals of the AVC, CEV, CSV, and NORCECA
are also scheduled to be completed before June 24.
