The Albert Stall trained Star Guitar’s majestic career finally comes to a close
After a glorious career, Star Guitar has finally taken the curtain call and has decided to conclude the chapter of racing in a grand fashion. The son of Quiet American was a model of perfection and had a brilliant career.
In 30 starts, the charge of Albert Stall holds an overall record of 24-0-2. Over the years, he accumulated earnings worth $1,749,862.
His retirement was announced after he sustained a serious injury. He has recurring quarter crack which has forced him to end his career.
The seven-year-old is a star in his home-town and has won three consecutive Louisiana-bred horse of the year titles.
Over the course of his brilliant career, he raced twice outside of his home and things did not go in his favour on both occassions.
The bay horse finished third in the Grade 3 Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs.
Trainer Albert Stall bid bitter-sweet goodbye to his long-time trainee, the parting was a happy one as the trainer told the press:
"He's been good to us every day of his life. I thought his quarter crack from last year was gone, but it showed up in the same place and would have taken a long time for it to grow back healthy. He'd done enough for us so we sent him on his way."
The handler further added:
"I feel happy for the horse, that he's going back home to Clear Creek Stud in Folsom, La. where he was born."
Owned and bred by Brittlyn Stable's Maurice and Evelyn Benoit, Star Guitar was an instant success from the day he started racing.
Whelped in 2005, his juvenile campaign was a success as he won the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes that year.
As a sophomore, he won the Louisiana Champions Day Sprint Stakes but he truly shined as a four-year-old when he won the Dixie Poker Ace Stakes, the Premier Night Championship Stakes, the Pola Benoit Memorial Stakes, Evangeline Mile Handicap and the
Gold Cup Stakes.
In 2011, his principle victories include the Louisiana Champions Day Classic Stakes.
This season, the older runner aced the La. Bred Premier Night Championship Stakes, Southern Oaks Plantation Costa Rising Stakes and Louisiana Legends Classic Stakes.
It is sad that despite his brilliance, he could not claim a graded victory.
