  1. probably clay

  2. Hope this helps. I found it on Wikipedia!

In 2005, all US Open and US Open Series tennis courts were given blue inner courts and green outer courts to make it easier to see the ball. The DecoTurf surface at the US Open is a fast surface, having slightly less friction and producing a lower bounce compared to other hard courts (most notably the Rebound Ace surface formerly used at the Australian Open). For this reason, many serve-and-volley players have found success at the US Open.

DecoTurf is a tennis hardcourt comprised of layers of acrylic, rubber, silica, and other materials on top of an asphalt or concrete base. It is manufactured by Decosystems (a division of California Products Corporation which also manufactures Plexipave), based in Andover, Massachusetts.

The surface is used at the US Open, the ATP Masters Series events in Canada and Cincinnati, as well the US Open Series tournaments. DecoTurf was used in the 2008 Olympics held in Beijing, China. The 2004 Athens Olympics were also played on DecoTurf.

Compared to Rebound Ace, the surface upon which the Australian Open was played from 1988 until 2007, the ball slows down slightly less on the bounce and bounces slightly lower on DecoTurf. This explains why serve-and-volley players such as Stefan Edberg and Patrick Rafter had more success at events held on DecoTurf than at other hardcourt events.

  3. In 1970 the US Open was the first of the Grand Slam tournaments to introduce the tie-break at the end of a set. The US Open was originally played on grass until Forest Hills switched to Har-Tru clay courts in 1975. In 1978, the event moved from Forest Hills to its current home at Flushing Meadows, and the surface changed again, to the current DecoTurf. DecoTurf is a tennis hardcourt comprised of layers of acrylic, rubber, silica, and other materials on top of an asphalt or concrete base.
