The American hound, Fleeter Neal a.k.a Hero, is all set to be paired with military veterans as a service dog
Fleeter Neal, famous by the name of Hero, was known for his numerous victories which he has achieved during his racing career, but now he is not only being discussed in the world of greyhound racing, but he has reached the peak of fame because he is the
first greyhound who has been trained as a service dog after his retirement.
The American greyhound owned by Lewis and Ryder Racing, was born on the 6th of July, 2007, in the United States of America.
He has been racing in the US in many notable events held at the Palm Beach Kennel Club.
On the 2nd of September, 2011, Fleeter Neal offered his service skills at the Palm Beach Kennel Club, newly taught by the trainers.
At the Petropolis Park, the red and fawn dog is being trained for the services that will be performed by him after the completion of his training.
Trainer Daniel De La, currently working at the Petropolis Park, is Fleeter Neal’s trainer.
While discussing Hero, the trainer said, "He's been very adaptive", further continuing his conversation, he said, "It's not the typical sit-down, stay-down type of stuff, which to me is interesting because I can usually teach a dog to sit on the first day”.
The Petropolis Park is situated in Hollywood, California. Apart from training sessions, it also has a doggy day care and broadcasting facility.
Fleeter Neal was donated to the well known organization, Service Dogs 4 Servicemen, which trains greyhounds as service dogs.
Donators of Hero are the Greyhound Pets of America Florida/Southeast Coast Chapter and the Palm Beach Kennel Club.
The young retired hound has been decided to be paired with the military veterans with the help of the Service Dogs 4 Serviceman Inc, in the month of November 2011.
These perfectly trained dogs are placed by this known organization for the men serving the country, United States, in need of these service dogs.
The American hound started his career in July 2009 from Palm Beach Kennel Club. He had his maiden broken on the 18th of August, 2009, in the Palm Beach 18 August 2009 HT A14.
Out of his total races, he has presented ten hits for his owners, Lewis and Ryder Racing, and along with that, he has finished second, twelve times, and third, nine times.
Although he was a great racer, in his last race, organized at the Palm Beach Kennel Club, he finished eighth.
At the meeting, the founder and president of the Service Dogs 4 Servicemen, Sara Donadei-Blood, said, "We want to give back to those who have given so much for us". She continued, "As we are primarily using retired racing dogs. We are impacting two lives
at once".
Hero’s training started in May 2011. Another greyhound was expected to be selected but luckily Fleet Neal, in light of his quick learning quality, was chosen.
Hero’s trainer, Daniel De La Rosa, was very impressed by him, saying, "I pretty much have treated him like he's an 8-week-old puppy, just getting him acclimated to everything. But he's pretty trainable".
