The Anaheim Ducks fly over the Edmonton Oilers
Anaheim shutout the already baffled Edmonton 4-0 in the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta in front of a 16,839 strong Oiler crowd. Bobby Ryan, one of the best in the league, scored 2 goals in the match making 27 this season, and goalie Jonas Hiller had to
make only 12 saves making it his fifth lock out of the season.
"Shot-wise it might have been one of the easiest shutouts of my career," said Hiller, mocking Edmonton’s performance.
The Oilers are ailing for a win having lost 3 consecutive games and 7 in a row at home, now becoming the lowest ranking team by far in the NHL, even lower than the Ottawa Senators with only 40 points. Oiler fans seem to be supportive of the team, but it
looks as if they just don’t want to earn their win. Coach Tom Renney left early shaking his head in sheer disappointment at his team’s performance.
Both Edmonton goalies Nikolai Khabibulin and Devan Dybnyk made a good effort making a combined 18 saves out of 22, but were harshly let down by the rest of the team, who were seen giving up as the time went by with 5 attempts in the first, 4 in the second
and 3 in the final at the net.
"We had a team play poorly in front of a young goaltender who has been really good for us this year. They let him down," said Tom Renney.
Teemu Selanne tipped the pass by Jason Blake through Khabibulin in the first 30 seconds, followed by one from Brandon McMillan at 15:24 of the second and Bobby Ryan a minute later. Making it 3-0 at the end of the second, the loss seemed inevitable for Edmonton,
analyzing their past performances in these types of situations.
Ryan shot his second in the net at 1:31 of the final 20 minutes, both of which were assisted by Corey Perry. That goal ended up being the last one for the Ducks as the Oilers just stopped trying after that.
The Ducks are tied for third place now with Dallas in the Western Conference and don’t appear to be stopping here. They are set to meet the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night finally at home after a perfect winning road trip against 4 teams.
