The Apple is the Orange?

A great man once said, "The Apple is the Orange." I have pondered for hours what this means. I need your help; please explain the meaning of this quote.

The Apple is the Orange. That's it. I mean no offense, but why do people waste their lives trying to dissect these riddles and puzzles from some wise-crack? You  know, you could make one up too. Here's mine, "Black is Red." (You should see me frown in my AP English Literature Class. It is ridiculous.)
