The Ashes Hullabaloo – a cause of premature seizures
As Ashes approaches near, the usual war of words is still on between the two arch rivals, Australia and England. Some say this helps to make the tournament more competitive but honestly, it is nothing more than immature hogwash aimed at grabbing some media
attention that is desperate to know the brand of tea that Stuart Broad will be drinking during the Ashes. At this juncture, many companies have come forward to offer lucrative contracts to English cricketers to promote their products. So, we will probably
find ourselves looking at a well tanned James Anderson who used a latest product quite soon.
Australia came up with a promotional advertisement right before the Ashes which was a fairly decent add, with all the Australian legends showing up on the field. The editing was good too and on the whole, it was cocky. It was rather simple and to the point.
England, on the other hand, have taken it up a notch wearing tacky gladiator costumes even though the touch with a lion in the beginning is interesting. The entire England team is dressed up like gladiators with Ian Botham giving them a speech.
The fact of the matter is that not only was Ian Botham the wrong choice but he simply could not pull off the speech. He would have seen himself something like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Oliver-c80166 Reed from gladiator, however he had more resemblance to Benny Hill, the English comedian.
Stuart Broad quite comfortably looks like a sissy schoolgirl ready to throw a hissy fuss. In fact on second thoughts, he reminded one of the Jonas Brothers and the audience would probably think that they have switched to Nickolodean. While Swann and Collingwood
put on a wry smile in the end which does not work. Not at all.
Why would they ever want to use an expression that they know they will never be able to actually pull off against the Australians in the field? On second thoughts, why would they even want to change their expressions from their previous attempts of trying
to pull off the tough guy facade? Mr. Andrew Strauss wears a Helmet in the last scene and one cannot fathom his reason for wearing one. He is not wearing gloves. Why would he want to wear a helmet without any gloves?
To top that off, you cannot for the love of god see his face. Why would anyone want to hide the captain’s face?
The editing also appears to be a little rushed, since in such scenes it is absolutely imperative to show the slashing of a sword or the tightening of straps in slow motion to amplify the effect. It seemed like they were simply waiting for Mr. Botham to finish
his monotonous tirade so that they could go out and go ahead with a golf game.
Also, why would anyone for the love of Jesus Christ make Stuart Broad a gladiator? He looks like a school girl. He could have been one of the damsels to egg the English team forward, but looking at Stuart Broad dressed up as a gladiator, gives a person a
certain seizure. The captain does make an effort to roar, however it seems as if someone has probably pinched his backside on a bus stand. He just cannot pull it off. Paul Collingwood, on the other hand, does have some potential to act. He could have been
handed out the captain's role of roaring.
To sum it up, the English promo add is good enough to give a person a seizure. It is simply not crickety enough and simply tries to chew off more than it can swallow. On the contrary, Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has done a good job with their advertisement for it
does not have Swann or Strauss waving their bats around as if they are auditioning for a third rate comedy show. The Aussie add is more professionally made, for cricket does not need court jesters in funny costumes to amuse the crowd. It needs some real cricketers
and that’s what we need. We can certainly do without some premature seizures. I am posting the links of both the videos so that the readers can judge for themselves.
