The Asian Development Tour heads to Malaysia for the PGM-Sarawak Masters
The 10th leg of the Asian Development Tour (ADT), the PGM-Sarawak Masters, is set to start at the Sarawak Golf Club in Kuching, from Thursday, October 4 to Sunday, October 7, 2012.
This will be the first time that an ADT tournament will be held in Sarawak, which is the largest state in Malaysia.
The RM 180,000 (approximately US$ 60,000) event will feature some of the best players from the tour, along with a number of Asian Tour winners, including Yeh Wei-Tze and Chan Yih-Shin.
The current ADT Order of Merit leader Hsieh Chi-Hsien is currently the hottest player in the field. Moreover, the other top four players in the list have also confirmed to participate in the event this week.
Other than that, Malaysia will also be represented by some of the best players in the country, including Shaaban Hussin, Iain Steel, Nicholas Fung, Sukree Othman, R. Nachimuthu and S. Siva Chandhran.
Jay Bayron and Peter Richardson, who are ranked second and third in the Order of Merit, are currently looking forward to retaining their positions in the list.
It is very crucial for both the players to maintain their form in the tournament and retain their spots. Otherwise, it can become difficult for them to earn automatic qualifications for the tier-one Asian Tour.
According to the Asian Tour’s qualification criteria, only the top-three players from the ADT will qualify for the 2013 Asian Tour season.
Bayron won the Bii Maybank ADT Challenge in Indonesia and Richardson earned a victory in the PGM-ADT Masters at A’Famosa in Malaysia, earlier this year.
Therefore, both the players are enjoying great forms on the tour and are listed among the hot favourites for a win in Malaysia.
Singapore’s Quincy Quek, who currently ranks 10th in the list, is confident to record his second victory on the tour this season.
In August, he thrashed his opponents in Philippines and bagged the first ever trophy of his career, at the ICTSI Orchard Golf Championship.
“It's a great feeling to bag your first win. Confidence levels are definitely up. But this also means that I must continue to work even harder,” he said.
