The Atlanta Braves crush the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-1 in ninth inning triumph – MLB Update
The National League’s Atlanta Braves took their revenge as they crushed the league rival Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching depth to earn a 10-1 victory in the second of the four-game series at Dodgers Stadium in California on Tuesday.
The Braves’ Martin Prado, Freddie Freeman, Eric Hinske and Dan Uggla homered to earn their eighth triumph for the Club.
The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning due to the promising performance of both starters. The Dodgers’ starter Hiroki Kuroda came out strong, achieving four strike-outs and tossing a no-hit five innings, but went slack in the sixth inning. He
allowed the game opening homer to the Braves’ Prado in the sixth inning. Kuroda went wobbly again in the next inning and tossed a loose pitch that the Braves’ top prospect Freddie Freeman sent out of the park to earn a 2-0 lead. It also ended Kuroda’s six
innings long spell in which he consumed five hits and three walks while having just four strike-outs.
The Braves bat awoke brilliantly in the ninth inning, this time Eric Hinske launched a two-run homer off the Dodgers’ closer Kenley Jansen. Catcher Brian McCann added an RBI single and the Dodgers relieved Jansen with Ramon Troncoso. The move did not work,
in fact it proved devastating for the Club as Dan Uggla hammered three-run homer. The batters did not stop as Alex Gonzalez and Hinske touched an RBI single each to score the eighth run of the inning that piled a 10-1 lead.
The Dodgers’ slugger Jerry Sands provided some relief to the camp, earning an RBI single in the bottom half of the seventh inning. However, the Dodgers’ sluggers could not turn this break-through into anything special because of the Braves’ impressive closers
John Craig Venters and Chris Martinez. Both did not allow any hits in their innings.
The Braves’ starter Brandon Beachy pitched six shut-out innings, allowed just two hits and two walks while having seven strike-outs. Beachy made his first win of the season with 3.86 ERA. Reliever Scott Linebrink was the only pitcher who consumed a run from
the Braves side.
It was the worst outing for the Dodgers’ closers as both permitted eight hits. Jansen allowed five runs before he was relieved by Ramon Troncoso, as he also went for five hits and three runs without a strike-out.
The Dodgers’ right-fielder Andre Ethier doubled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.
