I would love to see the gov get behind projects like the solar thermal power station and use some our fuel tax to fund these projects that way long term we will all be better of.

No more burning fossil fuel!!

  1. USA is going green????

    since when?????

  2. In the Age Business Day section, July 2nd 2008,  it states and I quote:-

Brown Coal Powers Ahead, State to get $750 million plant.

    (unquote)

The B****y Victorian Govt has given a GREEN LIGHT to the building of this plant, which is in the state where one of the worlds highest producers of brown coal pollution exists.

In other words, the 'experts' can tell the public this new plant is being build to reduce present plants pollution, but in fact that reduction is of no great significance to reducing carbon emissions because of the high rate it is doing it already.

Mmmm Any Victorians out there reading this, letters to Environment minister now may be a good move.

That money ought to have gone into energy efficiency and renewables, which save housholds and bussinesses money as well as addressing CO2 emmisions

  3. That's because green fuels are vastly inefficient compared to fossil fuels.  Wind, solar, ethanol all yield far less than what is required to keep the country moving.  Why invest in something that doesn't yield what you need, especially compared to a fuel that already has an established infrastructure?  It's simple economics.  If you're talking about nuclear power, then yes, you might be onto something.  That yields a great amount of energy with almost no pollution.  That is the energy of the future.  Unfortunately, it's not totally government that blocks that (at least in the U.S.), it's environmental groups that continuously hold up the construction of new plants even though they are safe and efficient.

  4. Hi Bert,

I am glad that you are interested in getting the govt more interested in the environment.

Interestingly enough the Australian government has implemented one of the most aggressive compaigns in the wolrd, expecting to have incandescent light bulbs throughout the country phased out by 2010 and replaced with compact flourescent's. According to Australian govt estimates this will reduce CO2 emissions for the country by over 800,000 metric tons. This is a huge improvement.

  5. You will always need fossil fuel in your lifetime and most likely the lifetimes of your children too!  No "green energy" will ever replace the need for "fossil" fuel!

Green power is expensive, anything the government does always costs more money than private industry.  When the government engages in projects guess who pays?  You pay!  You pay in inflated taxes!

If you are really concerned about "green house gases" and other pollutants then become a vegetarian!  The production of meat (chicken, lamb, sheep, cows, pigs and any kind of animal you raise to slaughter and then eat) produces more pollution than every car in your country running at the same time!

You and your children will always have a need for fossil fuel in your lifetimes!  Right now, green power also means paying more for your power!  Nothing says you can not purchase and build your own solar energy or wind power energy generating plant and take care of your own needs.

    Good luck.

  6. Actually you've got it backwards...

We in America stand up and applaud the Aussie Gov. for having the cajones to say no to all the whiners.....
