The Ayr Race Course – An important racing venue in Scotland
There are quite a few horseracing tracks in Scotland, but none can be compared to the top class Ayr Race Course, which was opened in the early nineties and has attracted several events since then.
There is no other track in Scotland, which hosts Grade-1 events, thus the Ayr Race Course holds great significance. Every year, a lot of to quality horses come to the venue for competitive racing and they participate in up to 30 meetings in order to entertain
the fans worldwide.
The Ayr Gold Cup is one of the most important events, which takes place at this venue every year. Other than that, the Scottish Grand National is also one of the most notable races hosted here.
In 2012, some important races took place at the Ayr Race Course and one of them was the Scotty Brand Handicap Chase. The class-2 event had a cash prize of £16,245 for the triumphant horse.
Although there were quite a few decent runners lined up for action in the race, Doeslessthanme was expected to be dominant. He certainly proved that the bookies had rightly rated him as the favourite, as he managed to win by six lengths in the end.
Another race, Isle of Skye Blended Whisky Scottish Champion Hurdle (Limited Handicap) Grade 2, also took part at Ayr this year. This event had a cash prize of £22,780 for the winner and Edgardo Sol was tipped to succeed in it.
However, Alan King’s trainee Raya Star caused an upset in the end. He was also given a very good starting price for the race and proved to be a dominant force, winning by 3¼ lengths.
The event with the highest cash prize was the Coral Scottish Grand National Handicap Chase Grade 3. It took part in April this year and was won by Merigo, who enjoyed a very good time at Ayr overall, winning two races at this venue.
The Andrew Parker’s trainee was awarded a cash prize of 102,510 in the end. He had to fight extremely hard for it and managed to take the top spot by just a head distance.
Apart from these events, the Arcadia Consulting William Dickie & Mary Robertson Future Champion Novices' Chase Grade 2 and Scottish Sun/E.B.F. Land O'Burns Fillies' Stakes (Listed Race) also took part at Ayr this year.
All these events are quite important and attract the top runners every year. The fans have always been entertained with races at the Ayr Race Course and they will be eagerly awaiting more action at the historic venue.
