The B-2 that crashed in Guam a few weeks ago...Was that a total loss of the aircraft?

  1. On 23 February 2008, B-2 s/n 89-0127, named Spirit of Kansas, crashed onto the runway shortly after takeoff from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam.   The crash of the Spirit of Kansas, which had 5,100 flight hours, was the first ever for the B-2. Both pilots ejected before the crash and survived, but the aircraft was completely destroyed.

    Yes you are right 21 were built.

    Yes it was a total hull loss and you are correct, only 20 left.

  3. I've heard that the aircraft rotated too early, climbed too steeply, and because of the reduced airspeed, there was insufficent lift to keep the aircraft in control. As a result, the left wing dropped, and dragged along the ground and you know the rest.
