The BMW PGA Championship: Paul Lawrie and Justin Rose tied for the second, Luke Donald wins
Paul Lawrie and Justin Rose tied for the runner-up position, at the BMW PGA Championship, as they finished four strokes behind the winner Luke Donald.
Both the professionals shot an 11-under 277 at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England. Their appealing performance took them to the second position, and they grabbed the handsome prize of €390,850.
Lawrie started the tournament early on Thursday. He shot 69, 71, 71 and 66 in the four-day tournament. He scored 18 birdies, an eagle, five bogeys and two double bogeys as well.
His final-round performance was simply tremendous, as he scored five massive birdies, a long-yard eagle and just one bogey. His overall performance was also amazing, as he competed well for the title.
Rose also scored and tied with Lawrie for the second position. He shot 67, 71, 69 and 18 total birdies. He only carded seven bogeys and made his way towards the highest leaderboard positions.
"Luke buried a lot of putts in the middle of the round," Rose said. "That seemed to be the main difference. He just played really, really well today. It’s tough when you’re having to try and make birdies. When you chase you end up making mistakes”.
He added: "I feel like I played really well today. I hit a lot of good iron shots. It’s been a good week. It was nice to be in the final group, it was a great pairing with Luke, great crowds. That was fun to be a part of. Luke, credit to him, played like
a champion".
Both the professionals finished four strokes behind the leader. Donald defended his title after he shot a 15-under 273 at the European Tour event.
On the other hand, he has also regained the leading ranking position, defeating Rory McIlroy, who missed the cut in the second round. McIlroy shot 74 and 79 in the starting two rounds and faced elimination.
Lawrie and Rose also improved their ratings and points. They have ample chances to impress the spectators in upcoming tournaments. They both can grab a victory. They only need to add more birdies to their scores.
