The Barcelona players speak after the Zaragoza triumph – Part 1
The Spanish defender and the former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique was very happy after Barcelona defeated Real Zaragoza and stated:
”We’re on a good run and this is another example of how well the team is working.”
The Spaniard commented on the performance and said that while playing for Barcelona, it is difficult because everyone expects the team to win because they are a strong side. He also commented about Pep Guardiola’s new formation in which
there were only three players as centre backs, Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol and the French defender Eric Abidal. Gerard Pique stated that it was easier to play that way as there were three players in the centre rather than two and it was easy for him to move
up front to join Barcelona in the midfield as he helps the team to add number in the centre of the pitch as their midfield sensation Xavi Hernandez was not a part of the team.
Gerard Pique was not the only one who was happy after the win as the team managed to maintain the number two position in the Spanish La Liga; right behind Real Madrid who won their match 6-1 at the weekend and their most expensive player
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick.
After the match Lionel Messi talked to the press and he stated that “La Romareda” is a tough ground and he said that it was nice how the Catalan giants stood strong against a team that are tough to beat and also very aggressive in terms
of crowd and also their style of play. He also talked about team’s consistency and said that it was an important win for the team and he would really like his team to continue playing like that. When he was asked about David Villa’s form he said that the Spaniard
is very happy in the club and at the moment he is relaxed but the goals are going to come.
David Villa missed approximately five chances in the game; chances in which he would score on any other day. Even though David Villa has not score too many goals while wearing the Blaugrana jersey, he has still managed to assist a few
and the first goal that Lionel Messi scored during the match, came with the help of David Villa who ran past three defenders and passed the ball onto the free moving Lionel Messi who made no mistake while planting the ball into the left corner.
Pedro Rodriguez also gave his word of thought after the win. He also stated that the ground was difficult to play on and he is happy that his team managed to win. Pedro praised Pep Guardiola and said that it was nice how the team was well
organized in the middle as there were more players at the centre of the field, especially after Zaragoza went a man down. He also spoke of David Villa and said that he is relaxed about not scoring goals and it was him who assisted the first goal. Pedro also
spoke about the star of the show, Lionel Messi and said that he is still the best player in the world and the Argentinean is proving it in every game. Pedro was asked about his fitness as he suffered an injury two weeks ago and he said that he is trying to
come back to his level best but he feels better than before.
The “humble” star of Barcelona, Andres Iniesta also gave a short review after the performance and said a few things. He told the press that the team really values the win and even though they have lost a few points earlier during the season,
they really don’t expect to lose any more points. He also gave a hint to Xavi Hernandez and said that the players have to look after themselves in order to play the long season and that is what he is doing. Iniesta was substituted in the second half so that
he can be rested for other games and that clearly shows how important he is for the team.
