The Barclays 2012 Leaderboard Round -Up
The Barclays championship teed off in style with things going wayward. There were surprise leaders at the top and the matchup between and Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods was not really that neck to neck.
Padraig Harrington led the field with a 7-under par score. The American duo, Harman and Watney, follow the Irishman by one stroke.
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy also started their bid for the title positively. Both of them broke the par, with Tiger Woods slightly edging ahead of Rory. Tiger looked more composed and calm even though Rory had been in fine form for the last couple of weeks.
Sergio Garcia seems to have found his touch once again. Since his victory at Wyndham, he is currently at T4 with a first round of 66.
Joining him on T4 is a surprise package, Gary Christian. The Englishman shot a magnificent 66 to end the first round ahead of the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler both shot 67 and are tied at T8. Their performance at The Barclays will be for their berth at the US Ryder Cup Team. Strong four rounds mean that Rickie Fowler would then be certainly heading to Illinois for the Ryder Cup.
Zach Johnson and Luke Donald are both tied at T14 along with Tiger Woods, whereas Rory McIlroy sits at T26 along with Steve Stricker and Lee Westwood.
Jim Furyk shot an even par round at Bethpage. If he needs to finish strongly, he would need to gear up as early as possible because low scores are expected at this golf course as the tournament progresses on.
Furyk started brilliantly, as he was 2-under after the first nine but two bogeys on the back nine meant that he would have to settle for even par.
The US Open champion Webb Simpson also had an even par round. He must get some good rounds under his belt before the Ryder Cup tees off.
Phil Mickelson also had a very decent round. He closed in with 3-under. In a round of 68, Phil shot five birdies but consecutive bogeys on the 11th and 12th meant he would have to settle for 3-under for the day.
