The Barclays Singapore Open Round 1
The Barclays Singapore Open is currently underway with its first round of golf and will continue till the 14th of this month. This is a 204 player field that is at present led by the golfer from England, Chris Wood, along with an unexpected entry, Kim Bi-o.
The Thursday’s round had been formerly delayed due to heavy rain and lightning and is led by Wood’s 63 with an 8 under. The golfer from England attained 5th place at the British Open held in the year 2008 as an amateur.
The event’s start had been a bit slow as rain and lightening had hammered the grounds for a full 4 hour stretch. So for the late starters, it had been difficult to complete the 18 hole course on time at the $6 million event.
Along with Chris Wood, the lead is shared by Kim Bi-o, both of whom are reported to play a much easier part of the Tanjong course. Kim Bi-o is a golfer from South Korea whose fellow compatriot Kang Kyung-nam appears on the leader board after holding the
fifth place. Kyung-nam is standing three strokes behind his fellow national and is thus placed on the fifth situate.
The 2008 turned professional, Wood, missed last year’s Singapore Open due to a major injury in Spain. The injury was attained in fall but his performance at the current Open had been incredible since he amazingly managed to play a bogey free round of 63.
The golfer from England collected a total of 6 birdies as well as one eagle. The twenty-two year old thus carded a minus 8 and said that the rain delay he faced hadn’t bothered him or his game that much.
Regarding the weather disruption, Wood stated that when it rained, he had only started his play so his game hadn’t really gained any momentum at all. The twenty-two year old stated that he was playing at the third green when the call-off was initiated. He
had however, already carded one birdie which had pleased him a great deal.
Coming Over to Kim, he is the winner of the 2008 Korean and Japanese amateur championships and carded a total of 8 birdies. He said that he could have become a 12 under golfer after today’s round but said that his 4 missed birdies kept him from the ‘could-be’
scenario.
“I missed 4 birdies from inside 10 feet or something, but I’m still happy" he said.
For the first time, the event is using two courses, both of 71 pars, and follows a format in which the golfers play one round on both layouts with those that will make the half way cut after completing the 36 holes of the Serapong course. The events defending
champion is Ian Poulter, who is fiercely pressurized by Graeme McDowell and Martin Kaymer due to the Race to Dubai.
