The Barclays Singapore Open is set to feature a starry field
This week, the Asian Tour will travel to Singapore, for the fifth last event of the season, the Barclays Singapore Open, slated to start from Thursday, November 8, 2012.
The tournament will be played at the Sentosa Golf Club, featuring some of the best players from different parts of the world. Furthermore, the tournament is also sanctioned by the European Tour.
A total of four past and present Asian Tour Order of Merit champions will highlight the Asian field.
The other big names include the world number one Rory McIlroy, the three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson and the three-time winner of the event, Adam Scott.
Other than that, a total of 46 Asian Tour winners will also display their skills in Lion City this week. Juvic Pagunsan of Philippines, who won the Asian Tour Order of Merit in 2011, will also be present in the field.
Pagunsan has spent most of his time this year in Japan and is currently enjoying a great form. He made the cut in each of the last seven events that he played.
Therefore, he is set to avenge his last year’s defeat at the Barclays Singapore Open, as he lost to Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano in the playoffs.
Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, who holds the record of winning the Asian Tour Order of Merit for a record of three times, is planning to end his winless streak on the Asian Tour in Singapore.
Entering the 2012 golf season, he was the leading winner on the Asian Tour with 13 wins. Thaworn Wiratchant, in the meantime, was ranked second in the list.
With Wiratchant winning three events this season, Jaidee dropped to the second place in the standings. He now trails Wiratchant by two victories.
Despite losing the record of most wins on the tour, he still holds the record of being the top earner on the tour with over US$4 million prize money.
According to the golf commentators, Jaidee will be among the strongest contenders to compete this week in Singapore.
Despite his winless streak on the Asian Tour, he has been enjoying a great form this season.
Earlier this June, he won the European Tour’s ISPS Handa Wales Open after defeating Thomas Bjørn, Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño, Joost Luiten and Richard Sterne with a one-stroke margin.
