The Best Defenders Available On The Market
The most needed players at most of the clubs all across Europe and the rest of the world are defenders. There has been an unforeseen shortage in the number of defenders over the years and the quality of the defenders if anything, has been on a constant downwards slope.
However there are a few defenders out there who still maintain their reputation for being just as good as the defenders of the past, here is a look at some of those defenders who might be on the move this transfer season.
The Uruguayan captain, Diego Lugano has been performing exceptionally well for his national team and for Fenarbache. He is currently completing the last few days of his contract with Fenarbache and is scheduled to leave the Turkish club as a free transfer. He would be a fantastic addition to any side and is more then capable of playing amongst Europe’s elite. Currently the teams that are pursuing the player are, Ajax, Genoa and Roma.
Fabio Coentrao has had a terrific World Cup campaign. He was one of the few Portuguese players who impressed throughout the course of the tournament. He has proved that he deserves a move to a bigger club. He is currently employed at the Portuguese side 'Benfica', but the club now appears to be too small to contain Coentrao’s growing status.
He is currently only twenty two years old and has a lot more to offer. He would be a fantastic long term investment for any team. The two teams that have currently shown the most interest in the player are Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Gregory van der Wiel was one of the key players of the Dutch squad that managed to read the first ever World Cup finals in thrity two years. Van der Wiel is now more than definite to move away from Ajax, considering the sturdy consistent performances that he put in and most teams across Europe would love to add the player to their squads. The teams that have been linked to signing the player are, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Aston Villa but it will only be a matter of time before numerous other teams also start to show signs of interest in the player.
Sergio Ramos was voted the best player at the FIFA World Cup 2010 by the Castrol rating scale. He continuously provided tremendous performances for the national side. He has however been linked with a move away from the Spanish giants Real Madrid after the appointment of Jose Mourinho as the new manager of the side.
Ramos is both a great defensive and offensive threat down the flanks and he is engineered to be a winner wherever he goes. The teams that have been linked to signing the Spanish player are Chelsea, AC Milan and obviously Manchester City.
Maicon is easily one of the best defenders in the world at the moment. He played under Mourinho at Inter and ever since the manager left to manage Real Madrid strong rumors were floating about that Maicon would be on his way to the Bernabeu. Maicon would be a great addition to any side that ends up signing him as long as Inter are willing to part ways with the player.
