Whenever anyone considers the best players in the world, the midfielders and the forwards are always the first ones that come to mind.
This quality could be considered to be a natural part of the game but it does slightly bend towards being unfair to the defenders. As a good defence is always a very vital part in a team’s success.
So here is a list of the eleven best defenders of the world that compete with the most talented eleven attackers in the world.

Ricardo Carvalho: Ricardo Carvalho is considered to be one of the best centre backs out there and he is arguably Real Madrid’s best new signing of the year.
Carvalho is imperial on the air, quick and has amazing techniques. He has won the Champions league title while playing for Porto and is known to most as being the most feared defender in the world.
Ricardo Carvalho is thirty two years old and still excelling at an alarming rate and it is mainly due to this defender’s efforts that Real Madrid has only let one goal in this season.
Rio Ferdinand: Over the last few years Rio Ferdinand has been one of the most consistent centre backs out there and is one of the key elements that make up the ‘Red Devils’ feared squad.
His composure and positioning is just great and the distinct way in which he handles the ball makes it very difficult to take the ball from him.
He received a very serious injury in the latter part of last season and this affected both the Red Devils team and the English national team and both the teams had to suffer.
It is also a known fact that Rio Ferdinand and Vidic make one of the best defensive duos in the world.
John Terry: In spite of John Terry’s off field behaviour he is definitely considered to be a top class defender. He has actually been voted to become the best defender of the Champions league, twice.
John Terry’s and Ricardo Carvalho’s defensive duo has been a very successful apparatus in the Blue’s victories. It is said that Terry’s most disappointing moment came when he missed a penalty that could have resulted in the Blue’s Champions League trophy.
He has also been a part of the ‘best eleven team in the world award’ for six years in a row!
All things aside though, there is no doubt that Terry is a world class footballer and one of the most talented centres backs out there. He is twenty nine years old and still in top form.
Vidic: This Serbian is an amazing player and plays the position of centre back and has an almost perfect partnership with Rio Ferdinand.
Vidic is also the Serbian national team captain and recently became Manchester United’s team captain. The team that he is heading up already consists of four former captains and still Vidic won the reins on this one. Vidic was also made part of the world’s
best eleven team last year.
Whenever these two defenders come together to play for Manchester United, the scoring rate of the opposing team goes down.
Vidic has a reputation for playing a simple game and rarely makes any mistakes. He has been giving such impressive performances that he was considered to be the best player in the Premiership in the 2008-09 season.
