The Best Defenders In The World: The Top Eleven – Part 2
Ashley Cole: Ashley Cole, one of Chelsea’s brightest is thought to be the best left back out there and he is both an offensive and a defensive threat to his opponents.
He is twenty nine years old and also a part of the English national team. He started his career with Arsenal and currently players for Chelsea.
Another Major attribute that tips the scales in his direction is that he has extreme speeds and is very agile. Ashley Cole has won two league titles while playing with Arsenal and it was only with his move to the Blues that his limitless talent pool was
discovered.
Real Madrid did show interest in him this summer and as Mourinho had already managed Ashley Cole so he wanted him back. Still Carlo Ancelotti was redundant when it came to giving up his star player.
Maicon: When considering the best right backs in the world, the name Maicon definitely comes up along with Daniel Alves. He is a key role-player in his team’s defence and becomes a dangerous offensive force when he wants to.
The 2010 season is considered to be the best season of his career as his goal against Barcelona was the deciding matter in Inter Milan’s Champions league victory.
He was considered to be the best defender of the 2009-2010 season by most views he well deserved it. Mourinho tried to recruit this star player as well this summer though Inter Milan refused.
Carles Puyol: This thirty two year old Spaniard, started his youth career with Pobla de Segur in 1993 and moved to Barcelona’s first team squad in 1999 and has three hundred and thirty four appearances for them so far.
Carles Puyol is one of those players who have won almost everything there is to win out there both at the International and at the Club level.
He is the Barcelona captain and a living legend, he is known for his ruggedness in the game, his commitment to the club and add to that his un-match able work ethic.
The duo that Puyol and Pique made was very crucial to Spain’s success in the World Cup. The Spanish team did not concede even a single goal in the knockout stages and Carles Puyol had a lot to do with that achievement.
Lucio: Lucio is argued to be one of the greatest centre backs in modern football and crossing past Lucio is said to be almost impossible.
Even Didier Drogba confirms this statement as Lucio stopped him every time he even tried to get near the goalpost in the Champions league last season.
Another amazing factor about Lucio is that he does not only play defence, but he has superior skills and makes for a great attacker any day of the week. Interestingly most attacks of the team are initiated by Lucio as well.
Signing Lucio to the team has always been considered as a stroke of genius by the manager Jose Mourinho and this Brazilian player played a very crucial part in Inter Milan’s treble winning season.
Daniel Alves: Daniel Alves is a Brazilian international and currently plays for FC Barcelona. He is twenty seven years old and is giving an amazing performance these days as he is providing amazing assists to Lionel Messi who is not missing
any opportunity that he gets.
Along with Etoo and Ronaldinho, Daniel Alves is considered as Barcelona’s best signing of the last decade.
The player has a limitless supply of stamina and energy. He never seems to get tired and he is a lot like Maicon except at one point in which he is better and that is that Alves is an excellent free kick taker.
This was an inspiring signing for Guardiola and became a main member for Barcelona’s legendary sextuple- winning squad.
