The Betchworth Kid claims the Nottingham meeting – Horse Racing Update
The Nottingham meeting took place on Wednesday at Colwick Park. The event managed to attract a great deal of attention of all those involved in the business of horse-racing and the fans. The race-horse ‘The Betchworth Kid’ managed to claim the event giving
a spectacular performance under the champion jockey Hayley Turner.
The Listed event which was known by the name of Further Flight Stakes was run over a distance of one mile and six furlongs and was open to race-horses of age four and above.
Those who witnessed the event say that the performance given by The Betchworth Kid was indeed beautiful and the way he came from all the way in the back to clinch victory is very praise worthy. The sheer elegance of the horse was personified, as the finish
line was crossed.
During the final furlong, the situation was such that Free Agent was leading the field and it seemed like the Queen’s race-horse, which is also the winner of the Royal Ascot meeting in the past, would rule the race. Nonetheless, Turner very intelligently
managed to hold off Free Agent as his race-horse made it to the narrow lead in the shadow of the post.
This was the first race that The Betchworth Kid won after he claimed the novice hurdle that took place at the Plumpton race-course in 2009. The six-year old race-horse trains under the care and supervision of the famed trainer Alan King and has participated
in some significant Flat and Hurdle races.
Initially, it was decided that the race will take place on the inner course. However, the plan did not materialise as water leaked onto the inner course making racing conditions unsafe for both horse and rider. Under these tricky conditions, the management
then decided to shift the race onto the outer course of the venue.
One of the biggest events in horse-racing, the Grand National meeting will start on 7 April and will take place at the beautiful and challenging Aintree race-course. The event will bring together some of the best race-horses trained by champion trainers.
