  1. i got 20k on cotto

  2. I disagree with Pancho.  Fight of the year should be Vasquez v. Marquez, even above the Manny fights!  Now THAT was a war!  I don't see this one being that good.  But it will be entertaining no doubt.

I think Margo will put Cotto on the mat, maybe 3rd or 4th.  Cotto will get up and win by TKO with body shots in the 9th or 10th.

  3. go margarito! viva la mexicoo

  4. CoTt0 @LL dAy

  5. Great article. You had me envisioning the fight.  But I think you got the result wrong.

I see Margarito by KO within five rounds.

There are two keys here (IMO):  1)  Margarito has been denied for so long that he has to be very hungry for a win here; and 2) Margarito has a big reach advantage and I don't see Cotto's left jab being much of a factor.

Margarito is a bomber.  He throws a lot of hard punches.  He also has a granite chin.  Cotto is a great body puncher, but he needs to get inside to get to the body. His chin is suspect.  Margarito's strategy will be to make Cotto pay a high price to get inside, which will diminish his effectiveness when he does get there.

I see this as somewhat similar to Holyfield-Tyson I.  Holyfield punished Tyson on the way in and then tied him up.  But Margo is (relatively) a much harder puncher than Evander, so he will be able to punish Cotto severely on his way in.  And Margo has power in both hands.  He also throws a lot of punches, more than anyone Cotto has faced.  Margo is one of the few two-handed punchers in the ring today.  His two-handed power and the volume of punches he throws will make it difficult for Cotto to move in on him.  It's hard to throw when you're getting hit.

The question in my mind is how well Margo can stand up to Cotto's body attack.  I'm sure that is on Margo's mind, too.  He will need to smother Cotto's body attack by tying him up on the inside -- if Cotto can  get inside repeatedly.  I don't think he can.

This fight could end in an early stoppage.  I don't think Cotto can take Margo out early.  I think Margo can take Cotto out early.  I think he will.  Cotto can only fight moving forward.  That is difficult against a much taller, long-armed power puncher like Margo.  Cotto is not known as a great defensive fighter, but even if he was, it's hard to defend against a two-handed power puncher. And that's exactly what Margo is -- and he has a chin.

I won't be surprised if Margo stops Cotto in the third round.

I agree with those who say this will be the fight of the year.  It will be a war.  I've seen each of these guys fight twice.  Cotto looked good against Judah and Mosley, although Judah was able to stun him.  Margo looked terrible against Clottey, but great against Cintron.  He was coming off a long layoff in the Clottey fight.

Margo is not coming off a long layoff this time.  If I could get 20 to 1 odds, I would bet $1,000 on Margo in 3; I would place another $1,000 on Margo in 4.

If I'm wrong, I will you back here in the latter part of 2014.  lol

  6. Margarito..... going to be too much for Cotto and his glass chin!!!

  7. I WANT COTTO TO WIN!!

  8. cotto , he is to good of a boxer , and margarito will go down on one of cottos hits , trust me , cotto his pretty ******* hard, margarito never fought a fighter like cotto, TKO 10th for cotto

  9. I have to disagree with Scott M completely on this one. No disrespect to you Scott, but you have some serious flaws to your theory.

    1. "Margarito is a bomber"...no hes not. He has to throw a hundred punches a round to get someone out later in the fight BECAUSE he fights by wearing you down. Margarito never has, and never will, have one punch knockout power.

    2. Margarito will get Cotto out early. Again, not likely. That would go hand in hand with your idea that Margarito is a power puncher, hes not.

    3. That this will likely be an easy fight for Margarito. Not at all, this will honestly be more of a litmus test for Margarito than it will be for Cotto.

    Points to consider:

    1. Ive said, when in doubt, bet the pedigrees. Margarito may make the claim "everyone is afraid to fight me", but that also is a statement "Ive fought no one of consequence". His two biggest fights were Kermit Cintron (W) and Paul Williams (L). Had Joshua Clottey not broken his hand, there would be another "L" I would be mentioning, because up to that time, Margarito was getting manhandled. In both cases, Clottey and Williams, Margarito was VERY HAPPY to escape, and not seek or grant rematches. Cotto, for all intent purposes, HAS fought much more diverse, and challenging fighters.

    2. Cotto, IS THE power puncher between these two. No question about this at all. When is the last time that you saw someone fight Cotto, that didnt look like they were disfigured after the fight? Eyes swelled, lips broken open. Cotto picks his punches and his combos BECAUSE he punches so hard that eventually you will have to respect it and stop throwing so hard.

    3. Margartios defense, it doesnt exist. In all the fights mentioned, Cintron, Williams, and Clottey, Margarito was hammered. Cintron didnt have enough on his punches to do anything of consequence, but Clottey and Williams did. And yes, up to when Clottey broke his hand, Margarito was afraid to open up because he kept not only getting hit, but getting HURT. Where as he would have a problem with Clottey smacking him around, being afraid to fire because he is getting hurt (and the fact that he drops his hands below his neck constantly) will cause him to get hit MORE, not less.

    Prediction.

Obviously Im leaning towards Cotto. Yeah its gonna be a pretty even fight in the beginning, Margarito will start slow, warming into his punch style...and Cotto will feel him out. But after awhile the fight is going to start running away from Margarito. Other than Clottey, he hasnt fought anyone really polished enough to combo him harder than he can. Cotto has been forced into some wars before, this is no new territory for him. But, Ive always said, "combos kill". And for all the arm dropping and arm punches that Margarito wings, Cotto has consistently (meaning every fight hes been in) managed to break down his opponent from the inside out. Everyone has said "Margarito has a great chin, he wont go down"..I dont think its going to be his chin that will be tested...it will be his body. Clottey laid down the foundation how to slow down Margarito using that. And although Cotto doesnt have Clotteys speed, he hits alot harder.

If Cotto can manage half of the workrate that Clottey did, Margarito may actually see the canvas.

  10. This is very hard fight to pick. So many things can happen in this fight. But one thing's for sure, this will be an old-fashioned shootout! This fight will be a throwback to the fighters of the 50's! I guarantee this WILL be the fight of the year!!

Now, the hard part, picking the winner. Here's how I think the fight will go:

Look for Cotto to come out moving and using his jab in the first round. He'll be trying to time Margarito and get a gauge on his aggressiveness. Margarito will come out looking to do what he does best, throw punches and jump on his opponent. There will be no slow starting from Margarito here, he's going to look to jump Cotto right from the start. Cotto will use a bit of movement early but qucikly realize that he HAS to fight this guy, and the war will begin midway through round 1.

Both guys will be trading shots early and often. Cotto will test Margarito's body like it's never been tested, and this will be a serious test for the chin of Cotto as well. You're going to see both guys landing hellacious shots on each other and you'll see it round after round. This will be a battle of wills, but I truly believe that Margarito will start to break Cotto down in the late rounds. His size, power, punch output, granite chin, and stamina will really carry him to victory in a grueling fight. I think Cotto will absorb a lot of hard shots to the chin in this fight and just get worn down by Margarito late. Margarito will walk thru the fire that Cotto is sure to put on him but I think Margarito wants this so bad that he's willing to go thru anything to beat Cotto. I see this as a close, tough fight with possibly Cotto hitting the deck and being stopped in round 11 of an all out holocaust!

  11. The difference in this fight will be toughness. Margarito has never been seriously hurt in a fight - Cotto has. I don't think Cotto has the toughness necessary to beat Margarito. I won't be surprised if he attempts to box Margarito.  I'm pick the TJ Tornado by stoppage late in this one.

  12. Miguel Cotto!! segoro que si.....Viva Puerto Ricoooooo

  13. Could be a war if Cotto stands toe-to-toe but he will box Margarito. How long can he box? We will see tomorrow! If you want to read about this fight head on over to http://www.fightjunkie.com/predictions they have a write-up on the fight and also a forum where you can go and chat about this and many other fight related stuff.

  14. I put half a million on Margarito. He's going to win.

  15. This is hard to pick because I really like both of these fighter I would rather they fight mayweather but we all kow he is scared. We all are expecting a war. and People your wish will come true. I can see this as a 3 fight set the first fight someone will win by points and I feel in my heart its going to be Margarito. but I really like Cotto but there is only one thing I can say and that VIVA MEXICO HIJOS DE LA CHINGADA cotto can't fight walking backwards and margarito will make him walk backwards
