The Breeders’ Cup Championship returns to Santa Anita for the 5th time in 2013
Santa Anita seems to be the perfect venue for the Breeders’ Cup, since the event has been hosted there four times, and it has now been decided that the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Championships will also be held there on 1st and 2nd
November, 2013, where it will be renewed for the 30th time.
Santa Anita will host this year’s Breeders’ Cup Championships as well on 2nd and 3rd November, 2012, and it is already attracting a significant amount of attention.
Breeders' Cup president and CEO, Craig Fravel, expressed his excitement regarding this decision as he told the press:
"We are delighted to extend our partnership with Santa Anita, to celebrate the 30th edition of our Championships in Southern California and for the unprecedented opportunity to showcase the Breeders’ Cup Classic in primetime for a second consecutive
year."
Fravel further stated that:
"Southern California and the greater Los Angeles community are always exceptional hosts for fans and horsemen alike from the event's launch in 1984 and, most recently, at the 2008 and 2009 World Championships."
Keith Brackpool, chairman of the California Horse Racing Board, was also ecstatic about this grand event being hosted at Santa Anita and told the press that he will try his best to make the event as grand as possible.
He also stated he will do everything in his power to raise the caliber of the Breeders’ Cup.
The Grade 1, $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic, the highlight of the Breeders’ Cup Championship 2013 will be televised on the NBC Sports Network. This year, the event will be held on 3rd November.
In 2011, the Breeders’ Cup Classic was taken by the Bill Mott trained, Drosselmeyer, who was ridden by Hall of Fame jockey, Mike Smith.
The Breeders Cup was held at Santa Anita in 2008, when the Breeders' Cup Classic was claimed by the John Gosden trained, Raven's Pass, and in 2009, when Zenyatta downed it to become the first female to defeat the boys.
This is the first time the event is doubling up. It was previously hosted at Santa Anita in 2003 when the Classic was won by Pleasantly Perfect.
