Why do the British love their Queen so much? Do/could the people of a republican country ever love their president, PM, or any other politician to such a degree? Or any other public figure for that matter?

  1. No. It's because the British monarch has family ties with lots of people within the United Kingdom - that's why she is well-loved.

  2. The Queen is a symbol, like the flag, or the national anthem.  This is proven by the fact that no matter who the ruling monarch is, the people would still love him/her.

  3. I don't understand how your love of your country could be tied up in a person, I'm Irish and I suppose we have a long history of fighting for our country. It is not about one person it is about the country, our people, our culture, our language. If a public figure works to preserve those things then I respect that but love doesn't figure in it. Whenever I am away for too long I feel homesick, that strength of feeling for your country is tied up in far more than just one monarch or ruler.

  4. Seems like we hate our politicians and love our movie stars...

  5. 1. I don't love the Queen. But if you're talking about Prince William...mmm.

Anyway, the Queen relates back to Germany, and Prince Phillip relates back to Greece- do these countries like them because of this?

  6. That's strange because i'm british and all the other brits i've come across couldn't care less about the queen or wether she exists or not....

  7. i'm British an i don't like the queen..most people here don't :p

why would we want a royal family ffs?? they do naff all..weren't elected in an have stupid amounts of money for crowns etc..an their germans..i say bomb them ^-^

  8. Well,I am not an old lady.I neither love nor loath the queen. She is doing a job and she does it very well.I don't love Gordon Brown and I didn't love his predecessor either.I think worship and adoration are the reserve of the likes of Mao Tse Tung,Kim il sung and Kim jong Il.

  9. Woh there's a lot of treasonous scum in this answer sheet!

lol, simple fact is your in the minority guys. 82% of proud UK citizens are in favour of the Monarchy, and 80% would be happy to fight any movement to despose it.

    Deal with it guys.

Anyway, no you can't. It's not that big a deal, I just see a reflection of my family history and deeds in the Monarchy. You don't need it, it's just nice.

  10. Hopefully people have no reverence for figures. An ideal society loves reason.

  11. Politicians are seen as inherently corrupt, so no, they could never be loved so. Royalty don't have real power, so you can like them all you want without feeling threatened by them.

  12. Maybe that is the worlds perception that Brits love their Queen but this Brit and every Brit i know with the exception of a few elderly ladies do not love the Queen or the royal family. More like we think the are a huge waste of tax payers money and are out dated and need to move out and get on with real life like the rest of us. Can you see Prince Charles pushing trolleys at Tesco's?  Well he should be.
