I have a compaq Presario computer with windows xp and the cd just decided to stop opening. I've tried restarting it, and turning off and on again. What should I do? There is a really crappy CD stuck in there too, The Complete Works of Edgar Varese, VOlume 1. Actually, Verese's not so bad, but I can't listen to that disc one more time without going completely nuts. Somebody please help.

  1. msi

  2. there is a small pinhole size opening on the front of all cd players. You can usually bend a paperclip straight and insert into this hole so as to allow for manual opening of the cd tray. Do this without power applied not because of shock risk per say but dont want it to start working while you are manually operating the tray.

  3. Take out the CD drive and check the connections. There should be 3 of them.  Make sure that all the cables are connected properly.  Watch this video for help.

  4. It should have a tiny hole in the front of the cd player.  If you stick a paper clip or other small thing in there, you can get it to open.  Thats what the hole is there for.

  5. In the face of that CD player have un small opening insert a pin or needle and push and open sesame.

This happen because they have a small rubber band inside, when this wear out it do not work no more, this work as a fan belt tie to 2 pulleys.

  6. There is a very small hole in the face of the drive, get a paper clip and bend it straight. Insert it into the hole carefully and feel for a stop. Depress the stop and the drawer should open. Replace the drive if it continues to stick. If you decide to replace the drive get a DVD burner.
