The CEV Boys’ Youth European Championship starts in Turkey today – Volleyball news
Finally, the wait is over and the final round of the 2011 CEV Volleyball Boys’ Youth European Championship is starting today, Saturday, April 16 in Ankara, Turkey.
There have been some scintillating and thrilling encounters in the prelims of the championship, while only 12 teams could survive until the final round. The squad of 12 teams have been divided into two pools.
Teams from Belgium, France, Finland, Russia and Ukraine are labelled as Pool I teams, while the Pool II is comprised of teams from Germany, Greece, Turkey, Poland, Bulgaria and Serbia.
The Pool I matches are going to start at 14:00 (local time) and the action will get underway. The search for the best boys’ team from Pool I will continue until April 24 and a total of 15 matches will be played. Following the same pattern, the Pool II will
open the final round on April 30.
Turkish city of Ankara is the prestigious host of the final round of the 2011 CEV Boys’ European Championship. France is defending the European Title this year, while there are others who have the ambition to make their way to the top.
Teams from Spain and Belgium will break the ice in the opener of final round today. Afterwards, the defending champion France will take on Ukraine. The French are enjoying a top form and are fully prepared to crush everything in their way. The head coach
of the Team France, Jean-Manuel Leprovost is confident about his team-line.
He said, “For sure we would like to continue our winning streak with a third consecutive title, but this is a new French team with new players and a new head coach. We’ll do our best to defend our title.”
The last match of the day will feature teams from Finland and Russia. This would also be an interesting encounter between the two archrivals. The Russian ‘army’ is ready to stage some sizzling action on the centre court. The heat will be on as the teams
will make their way to the podium today.
Meanwhile, the President of the Turkish Volleyball Federation, Mr. Erol Ünal Karabiyik stated, “I believe that the most talented young players of Europe should be considered as the worldßs best players in the near future. I would like to invite all Volleyball
lovers in Ankara to enliven the tribunes of the Başkent Volleyball Hall, to pep and encourage these youth players in order to show the key position of European Volleyball on the international arena prior to the World Championships.”
