The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic welcomes a jet lagged Indian
The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic underwent its first round today in Malaysia. The event held in Kuala Lumpur is the first event which has been endorsed by the U.S. Tour and has selected a few players such as Ernie Els, Martin Laird,
Ryan Palmer, Robert Allenby, Luke Donald, Heath Slocum and Rickie Fowler to play the event.
The first round ended with Ricky Barnes who managed to grab a lead of 63 with an eight under while Arjun Atwal, still whirled in his jet lag. Atwal is the first Indian to have won the PGA Tour at the Wyndham Championship in August.
Atwal is the only Indian Player in the terra firma of Malaysia and collected a total of 5 birdies and 2 bogeys in his back nine. The golfer based in Orlando said that he has collected a good record from these plains and holds the
Malaysian Open title of the year 2003 and 2008- which is a good thing.
This time however, the Indian has been unable to display his best form. The thirty seven year old blames it on the travelling. He said that his body has not been able to react the way it normally does and the jet lag could be the
main reason for it. Although the 1995 turned professional always enjoys playing in Malaysia, this time his game has been nothing but a spoilt Thursday. Atwal however, still has his hopes up for the rest of the rounds of the Classic.
His cushion: the Wyndham triumph. The 2003, Asian tour winner stated that the previously mentioned tournament has enabled him to choose the events he wants to compete in wisely. He said that not only has his schedules become comfortable,
he doesn’t have to think much about which events to play or not. Atwal stated that he will support India undeniably as well as the Asian tour since this was where he first learnt to make cuts and some other good stuff regarding his play.
According to Atwal, he has spent a good 2010 golf year. The thirty seven year old recalled his scoring average and stated that it isn’t mentioned in his stats since he had failed to gather a lot of tournaments on the PGA Tour.
“The scoring average I collected was sixty nine point something” Atwal recalled.
Atwal has been under the wings of his Australian Coach Dale Lynch and believes that his coach has enabled him follow the right path. The Tiger Woods practice partner seems highly passionate about his game and stated that he will
try to gather multiple victories on the PGA Tour and even a Major victory. Atwal said that he may not have congregated all the techniques but he is undergoing some major changes that have made his golf more consistent. Hopefully these techniques and swings
would shine at the second round of The CIMB Asia Pacific Classic.
