I would like ANY information on them, because soon I plan to get a pair.

Things I would like to know: Sexing, Caring for, Breeding, Raising, Picking them out from the pet store (probably Pet Smart, or Pet Co).

Thanks!

  1. Hi,

As for sexing diamond doves then the male has a brighter and larger circle of skin around the eye, and the hen's is smaller and not as bright.

As for caring for then they will eat any seed mix, i feed mine on finch mix or budgie seed. Some greens will help every now and then. Doves need a supply of grit to help them digest their seed. They also enjoy millet sparys and need some cuttlefish especially if you are going to breed them.

Breeding is pretty hard it took me years to get a pair to start breeding so i would not recommend you to start breeding until you know a bit a bout them. In order to breed mine i just supply them with some hay and a d-cup half filled with grit and mine will build a nest in the grit dish. But you can also use a canary nest pan with a felt inside it, doves are not very good nest builders so you need to supply them with a container to build their nest in otherwise it will just fall apart. As for raising then  the parents will do this, all you need to do is supply them with food.

Finally as for choosing the bird then always pick the most active bird, make sure its awake and active. Finally make sure that there is no discharge from the nose or eyes of the birds then they will be fine.
