The Catalan Giants speak to the press (Part 1)
Before heading into next week, Barcelona presented themselves in front of the press, as the young Barca B players, who featured during the midweek UEFA Champions League fixture, were to speak about their experiences.
The players that talked included midfielders, Sergio Busquets, and Javier Mascherano, along with Jose Manuel Pinto and Victor Vazques. The very young centre back, Andreu Fontas, also spoke about his experience in the first team and his first ever UEFA Champions League game.
The two holding midfielders, Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano, were the ones who spoke first. The young FIFA World Cup winner, Sergio Busquets talked about his experience with the team and how he loved playing alongside the young Barca B players.
He said that the Russian side Rubin Kazan were very tough at the back and very well organized as well. He said that defensively the game was simply superb and the Russian team played six men at the back, which was hard to overcome because Barcelona were only playing two strikers up front.
He added to his comments, stating that the Catalan Giants found it hard to pass the ball around Rubin Kazan’s eighteen-yard box. The Spanish champions still played the way they always do and kept almost eighty per cent possession of the ball. In the end Guardiola’s men were victorious.
Sergio Busquets also posted a threat to his team mates by reminding them that their side has qualified for the next round and there is simply no doubt that only the best teams are left in the tournament. He said that all the best teams in the groups got selected, which proves that UEFA Champions League is a platform where the best European teams compete.
The newly signed Liverpool holding midfielder, Javier Mascherano, also commented after the clash with the Russian giants. He hailed the way the Russians were able to defend as he told the press that it was simply hard to get through them. He stated that they were tactically very strong and his side found it difficult to penetrate them.
The Argentinean captain articulated that his transfer to the Spanish club was not very easy. He further commented that everyone is a great competitor here and even though there is space for only one holding midfielder in the team, he does not find it difficult to compete against Sergio Busquets.
Javier Mascherano also spoke about his fitness with the club. Mascherano alleged that he would love to play till February, with the rest of the squad. While complementing on the UEFA Champions League, the Argentinean expressed that only the best teams play in the European competition and he loves how each and every team comes up with extraordinary players.
He also praised the young La Masia youth and said that they are simply extraordinary players. The recently signed Barcelona player stated that the Catalan Giants have managed to produce some fabulous players in the history and the youth system is simply historic and there is no other team which even comes close to competing against them.
