  1. It dealt with a crisis after construction of the Berlin Wall. The communist government of East Berlin built a wall to prevent people from escaping to West Berlin which had a democratic government. Berlin itself was completely inside the Soviet zone of occupation after World War Two. After construction of the wall, the Soviets cut off the roads into Berlin from West Germany and also the telephone lines between Berlin and West Germany.

  2. Did they actually print the typos?

  3. Its a headline referring to what was going on in East Germany.

On August 13, 1961  - Construction of the Berlin Wall begins, restricting movement between East Berlin and West Berlin and forming a clear boundary between West Germany and East Germany, Western Europe and Eastern Europe

To stop the flow, East Germany gave the division of the city a grimly physical form in Aug. 1961, by erecting the 29-mi (47-km) fortified Berlin Wall along the partition line, leaving only a few closely guarded crossing points.
