The Cole Hamels show brings down the Cincinnati Reds, in a shut out (Part 2 Final)
The Philadelphia Phillies were up against the Cincinnati Reds in their 3rd match of the playoff series at the Great American Ballpark. The East champs were looking for the final win against their opponents and with that
victory they could move into the second round of the playoffs. Fortunately, that is exactly what happened when they went up against the hosting Central leaders. The outcome was one to take a good note from. The visitors brought on Cole Hamels to do away with
the threat that the rivals’ hitting faction.
Cole Hamels was instrumental in his game play and he made sure the Reds never made it through with a single run. The pitcher threw a complete shutout game. The effect that the Phillies had on the Cincinnati side was good enough
to dispel then from ever coming back with a concrete response in the fixture. The ball clubs were locked in a hard contest and with the conclusion approaching there was already a talk of the side going up against the New York Yankees in the final.
Hamels ended the night with a pump of fist and that started the celebrations in the night. Most players lined up to shake hands and bump their chests as the night ended in the team’s favour. The ball club has been on the pursuit
to become the first National League team to win three straight pennants in the 66 years.
While Roy Halladay accomplished a land mark no hitter in the first game against the Reds, the Phillies ace man, Cole Hamels ended the rivals’ push in his own style. The maestro allowed just 5 hits and managed to pick out the best
post season strikeout figure of 9. Cincinnati was heartbroken after the encounter and it was understandable. The ball club did not make to the postseason in 15 years before 2010. The team’s biggest concern was the 6 errors it conceded in the last 2 games.
The top offensive team also registered a low tally on hits in the last three games. For a club being dubbed a hard hitter, the figure was a low blow to the management. Dusty Baker, manager for the central team was present to give out a few comments in the
game. “I mean, they really pitched. They're a very good team. We kept 'em in the ballpark, so to speak, kept the runs down. We just didn't push across enough runs."
Roy Oswalt will be featured in the next game and since he’s been rested well, there will be a good steam to drive the Phillies locomotive to a new ground in the post season. However, before one digresses into what may come in the
future, there is a need to recognize the top players in the team who will be expected to perform in the next round of the competition.
Philadelphia Phillies
Roy Oswalt: One of the top three pitchers in Philadelphia, Oswalt enjoys the fame of being a top grass player. His low Earning runs Average of 2.76 is a remarkable statement in terms of his ball throwing
prowess. However, his game against the Reds faced a little criticism. He allowed 5 hits of which 4 were converted for runs. With a bad display of pitching going into the playoffs, the management will require the top player to do his bidding by pitching the
right balls into the strike zone
Chase Utley: The hard hitter was instrumental in getting the Phillies their 2nd run in the 3rd game against the Cincinnati Reds. For a player who has been hitting the right form level,
the importance of having him on the squad will be essential for the management. There will be time period in which his expertise will come into play and for a batter whose batting average hits .275, he’s done well so far in proving his worth to the East title
holders.
