The Costa Del Sol?

The Costa Del Sol translates to "The Coast of Sun" but that was for the benefit of tourism. I wonder if anyone knows what it was before that.

  1. Of course, Costa del Sol is a "marketing" name made up in the 60's when Spain opened to international tourists. Actually almost any coast area in spain could have been named like that (more than 300 sunny days a year).

Before tourism, Spanish weren't very interested on sunbaths or surfing so the region was naturally named as "Mar de Alboran" (Alboran Sea)
