Researchers were recently in my country, Maldives Islands. Its a whole bunch of islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean. They estimated that in just about 50 years because of Global Warming, resulting in rising water levels, the whole country will be underwater. Since its too late to stop Global Warming, what should be done do help us. Rumour has it, Australia will give us land, in return they want the area of water Maldives used to be in. Any other ideas? Keep in mind, there are around 350,000 people currently living in the Maldives

  1. The founder of the Weather Channel wants to sue Al Gore for fraud, hoping a legal debate will settle the global-warming debate once and for all.

John Coleman, who founded the cable network in 1982, suggests suing for fraud proponents of global warming, including Al Gore, and companies that sell carbon credits.

"Is he committing financial fraud? That is the question," Coleman said.

"Since we can't get a debate, I thought perhaps if we had a legal challenge and went into a court of law, where it was our scientists and their scientists, and all the legal proceedings with the discovery and all their documents from both sides and scientific testimony from both sides, we could finally get a good solid debate on the issue," Coleman said. "I'm confident that the advocates of 'no significant effect from carbon dioxide' would win the case.

  2. Dear if its happening, then some area of the island must have already been covered with water. what about the populatiof that area.

See its a slow process. People will migrate themselves as with rising sea level, there would be little to feed them. Like in the case of Mangroves in Pakistan.

  3. I honestly think scientists are hoolagins.

They make maniac predictions, that scare the living S**t outta people.

  4. I think you can dismiss the Australia rumour, what interest would they have in a group of islands or the water which would be useless as the islands will be only just below the surface and they are half way round the world. I think India might also have some thing to say about another country using the ocean so close to their country.

I remember reading in a silly sci fi novel about tourists having to bring a pound of dirt with them to a planet to prevent erosion, maybe the Maldives could do that.

  5. I would say move, but what do I know?

  6. Wow, there are some silly pointless answers here comparing it to New Orleans for one, makes no sense if you live there you can move to higher ground. If you live in the Maldives the highest natural ground you can find is 7.5 feet.

Another stupid one was comparing it to Holland, the Maldives is over a thousand islands not one coastline like Holland and Holland was a superpower in the 16th century when they started the reclaiming of their land.

  7. Well, if you lived on the side of an active volcano, what would you do? Plan to move elsewhere. Do not sit around waiting for the government to help.

As far as the "raising" water, how fast is the sea rising? My guess is probably about 3 mm per year. You should have some time. And with the expanding glaciers this year, you may be in the clear.

  8. Can you show me a study or a news article that backs up the scientist's claim?  My understanding is that there is nothing to be concerned about.

"We find no alarming sea level rise going on, in the Maldives, Tovalu, Venice, the Persian Gulf and even satellite altimetry, if applied properly." -- Dr. Nils-Axel Morner, emeritus professor of paleogeophysics and geodynamics, Stockholm University, Sweden.

  9. To let the whole world know the Maldives in danger, and those rich countries may help Maldives Islands. Like giving them a place for living. or.. we all have a charity concert.. like Olive Earth.

  10. I hope that the global warming will reverse. I am not joking. For the past 10 years we didn't big snows here. Everyone was talking about the global warming. But this year we have had very very very big snows. I know Maldives are an island country in the South Hemisphere. But who knows?..... Maybe one day you will be afraid that your country would be covered with snows.

  11. Should we teach them to swim?

I hope that hook in your mouth doesn't hurt too much.  Did the researchers give a good yank to set it when you bought into this whole man-made global warming hoax?  The ocean level has been rising very, very gradually for about the last 100 years.  Global warming hasn't sped it up.

But if you are wanting to move, I will trade you my house for your island.

  12. According to the Wikipedia you are fast running out of land not because of rising sea levels, but you have one of the highest birth rates in the world and there just isn't enough space for your exploding population.

Maybe the UN should send a few crates of condoms to the Maldives.

  13. Actually, I doubt that the islands are sinking since they are fastened to the floor of the ocean.  Instead, they are being submerged by rising sea levels.

I feel for you, I really do.  This is a tragic real world example of what I have been saying about global warming for some time now.  Unfortunately, no one seems to be listening.  The problem is, everyone is too busy with their whining, finger pointing, hand wringing and name calling to deal with the real problem.

Global warming, and the associated increase in sea levels, is inevitable (just look at past temperature cycles).  Instead of all of this non productive activity, we need to be looking at ways to deal with the upcomming change.

  14. It is not scientist's fault!  Seriously, if you were suddenly thrust into fame and were promised fortune by some idiotic extremist politician, you would probably do the same thing.  Science is what it has always been.  Recognize that Gore has more PR people FUDGING the actual numbers that his scientists give him.

They told him that by 2100, the most the ocean could rise was 23 inches...  It was Gore and/or his PR people that changed that number to 20 feet.  I actually worked with NGEO (National Geographic) and they are not extremists and do support the truth.  However, would you turn to your boss who signs your paycheck and tell him he is full of c**p?

Seriously, it is what it is and it will die out very soon as the truth slowly hits them too hard in the face to ignore....

  15. Sadly there are still thousands in New Orleans waiting for the Government to solve their problems (housing, jobs, etc.) That's what the news media harps on. (Poor, sick & hateful democrat victims)

BUT they don't mention the millions that were effected who cleaned up, rebuilt, and created employment under the free enterprise system. Many without Almighty God Government's assistance!

If you only read WhakoPedia - you'll never learn the truth.

in case you're not aware - you live in a tectonically active area - which means your islands might rise or fall at natures whim!

  16. what are they going to do to help themselves?

The world has its natural phases  -along with global warming - and land comes and goes. We all have been pre warned of impending disasters that are going to befall us, are any of us preparing for it? I think not.  Predictions are that by 2050 Australia will be a massive fireball - who is going to house all the Australians then?

  17. so because the ocean levels are rising, some how the rest of the world has to come to your aid? have you ever heard of sea walls? reclaimed land? look at what holland has done. much of that country is well below sea level. they live on land reclaimed from the ocean. they live behind dykes that were built at least a century ago. why dont you try the same thing? you wont have to worry about holding back the north sea at the same level they do. or perhaps you all could move to another land mass.

  18. evacuate the people to a place with hight ground. not england cos that entire region is going to be underwater. thats all we can do. but i don't think most people  will be willing to leave their homes.
