The Crowne Plaza Invitational is expected to be affected by the wind gusts this year
The venue for the Crowne Plaza Invitational, Colonial Country Club in Forth Worth, Texas, is known for its pleasant weather and lack of presence of the winds allowing players to record low scores.
That is the reason why the winners have always succeeded in breaking the 270 mark in the four rounds each time in the last 12 years.
According to the past weather reports during the tournament week each year, it can be found that the wind gusts have not affected the complete four rounds of the event.
In fact, they only blow once or twice a week, making the event even more interesting.
However, this time it might not be the case as the weather forecasts says that the wind gusts can blow throughout the four rounds of the tournament.
Therefore, the game followers are expecting to witness some high scores during this year’s event at Colonial.
According to the course officials, the winds can definitely affect the shots on different holes especially when they are blowing opposite to the direction of the ball.
There are some holes where the players will need to play against the wind that will need accurate calculations for successful shots.
JJ Henry, who lives in Forth Worth, said that it will be difficult for the players to make shots during the opening two rounds.
However, they will get used to the conditions later on and can definitely record some good scores in the end.
"If the wind blows and the greens dry out, it could absolutely happen," Henry said. "The wind will be a challenge the first two days but once the weekend rolls around, players will know how to adjust to it. The key will be to keep the ball in the fairways
and take advantage of the two par-5s [Nos. 1 and 11]".
"You got be very confident with the wind,” added Hunter Mahan. “You got to know where it's coming from and be very committed to that. If you are not committed, it's tough to play well out here".
The tournament will officially begin on Thursday, May 24, 2012.
