The scene where John Proctor adds some salt to what Elizabeth is cooking.

i know she spent days making that food, (and adding salt meant disrespect or something back then, right?) so does this scene symbolize anything? or foreshadow? does it have any major significance?

it just seems to me that it means something more, but i just can't tell.
