  1. There were two different episodes of Czech rebellion against the USSR. The first was 1968, when the promise of the "Prague Spring" was crushed by Red Army tanks and troops.

    That promise was redeemed by the "Velvet revolution: because victory came by politics, not by armed Resistance, after Gorbachev announced that the Red Army would not intervene in East bloc politics anymore. Within months all the Eastern European nations threw out their Communist rulers.
