Question:

The DERBY 2008 (English)?

Remember that you heard it here first.....Looking at last years racing I have decided that the horse I was most impressed with that holds n entry in this years Derby is KINGDOM OF NAPLES who is currently trading at prices in excess of 20-1. To be he will stay and shows an ability to quicken rapidly...and being by my favourite 1.5 mile sire - Saddlers Wells, he will do for me.

Has anyone else got any firm opinions on the race yet?

  1. No firm opinions as yet, but the Newmarket grapevine has been all about CONFRONT through the winter.  He was being talked up as a Guineas horse (currently about 16-1) and runs in the Greenham tomorrow, but it is very interesting that they have now supplemented him for the Derby.

  2. i dont know about the derby, but Australian horse Takeover target will be heading to england for the sprints at royal ascot, he'l be tough to beat

  3. to early yet i prefer to wait untill after the trials you get a much better picture then

  4. have already backed twice over @ 16/1  & after today's craven i'm feeling very happy with myself !!

  5. i would wait to c which horses are running

  6. no firm opinions yet because i follow the markets and secondly iam not a lover of anti-post betting .

however you need to have your eyes open and one horse iam looking at is TWICE OVER whom runs today at newmarket for henry cecil and today should give me some further pointers.

he has been impressive for me on his last two races at newmarket last year so today could be intresting.

  7. id like to give my thoughts on kindom of naples and twice over who have already been mentioned,

firstly though ,the best derby trials like the dante at york and derryinstown in ireland have yet to be run, these trials are much more bearing on the derby than the craven and guineas have had in the last 15 years.

regarding king of naples stanima, there is some doubts by pedigree experts if sadlers wells is a true influnce for stanima at 1m4f.his dosage index though( can be viewed at http://www.pedigreequery.com/kingdom+of+... ) and as a impressive 10 stanima points.he also as 48 total points which indicates a very high class pedigree.

twice over is out of the top class miler observertry, although the female side as more stanima. http://www.pedigreequery.com/twice+over3 ,not nearly as a high class pedigree, as KON does though as 4 stanima points which is ok.

as for form ,kingdom of naples looks to of had the better and forthcoming en route to the derby.he ran over 1 mile as a 2yo and as 7 group entries in which only the irish 2000 guineas is at 1 mile.the rest are 1m2f + including the irish st leger.he also as the dante and derrystown as entries.

twice over ran as a 2yo twice.he started of over 1 mile and than ran 1m2f.this looked good and good indication he was thought of as a stayer, but the downside is he ran in the craven(1 mile),as impressive as he may of been winning that ,going the 1 mile route for a derby hopeful as a 3yo as been the kiss of death and with good reason.why would henry cecil drop him in distance as a 3yo?this is a strange route and i wonder if he feels he may have to much speed for the derby.the results of the last 15 years indicate you need to aim it at distances closer to the derby trip (1m2f+) at 3 instead of going the mile route.sir percy was one of the rare few who won it after going a mile as a 3yo(incidently one of the slowest run derby in years and involved a 4 way photo!) and that took 14 years after the last one to do it.

  8. Thanks we will be watching.  What is the date for the English Darby 2008?

  9. At this point if i had to choose it would be Zulu Chief 33s with pp. Thought he was going to make a go of it today but he was just there for the run id say.. I know that the stable hold him in very high regard and they are knowhere near as wound up as they could be. This horse is definatly going to win races this year, one to keep an eye on!!
