The Dallas Cowboys prove they're back, beat Detroit Lions
The Dallas Cowboys showed just how good a team they can be when all their star players are on the same page. Receivers Miles Austin and Dez Bryant provided swagger to Dallas’ offence as the Cowboys got
their second straight victory by defeating the Detroit Lions 35-19 on Sunday with 81,261 in attendance.
Austin and Bryant combined for just 15 yards but the duo scored three touchdowns as the Cowboys look to finish the second half of the season on a positive note under interim coach Jason Garrett.
"The people I'm playing with allow me to play at this level," quarterback John Kitna said. "When they're playing like that, the quarterback position becomes easy."
Bryant, a top contender for offensive Rookie of the Year, scored on a one-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Detroit answered with a 47-yard field goal from Dave Rayner and on a nine-yard touchdown
grab from receiver Nate Burleson in the second quarter. Burleson led all receivers in the game with 97 yards on seven receptions.
Trailing 10-7 at the half, the Cowboys got a huge boost from Bryan McCann’s 97-yard punt return, which sent shockwaves through Cowboys Stadium.
"I was tired of seeing the offense start out at the 5 all day, so really I just wanted to make something happen," McCann said. "Everybody wants to be the guy to make that play and it just felt good to
be able to do it two weeks in a row."
With the crowd energized, Dallas put on a show for their fans. They added to their lead with another score which saw Kitna connecting with Austin from three yards out. Dallas continued their assault in
the fourth quarter as Austin hauled in his second touchdown on the game and Kitna showcased his mobility by rushing 29 yards for the major.
"You just keep on running 'til they get there," said Kitna, who completed 18 of 24 passes for 147 yards for three scores.
The win snapped a four-game home losing streak for Dallas. The Cowboys are finally playing up to potential haven defeated a tough New York Giants team last week and winning against a young feisty Lions
squad.
Shaun Hill got the start again for Detroit with Matthew Stafford still injured. Hill received no help from the ground game and was forced to drop back and air it out 47 times. He finished the game with
289 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
