  1. Actually, bacon isn't far off - there are more pigs in Denmark than there are people.  The restaurant chain Chili's in the US only uses Danish pork for their ribs.

I think the most 'famous' Dane is Hamlet, personally ;)

  2. Bacon. Definitely bacon :)

  3. H.C. Andersen

  4. Denmark is the happiest country in the world! People are friendly and most everyone speaks english.

  5. Denmark is known as the happiest nation on earth and having been there I belive it.

They are well known for Hans Christian Anderson (Little Mermaid, ugly duckling)

Niels Bohr is also a famous Dane as he came up with the Bohr model of the atom (which everybody learns in school at some point.)

They have the longest reigning monarchy ( in that the same family has been in power for longer then any other fuling family).  But they are a democracy with a parliament.

    Lego was invented in Denmark

    Viggo Mortensen is half Danish

All of the danish princes/kings are named either Christian or Frederick.

If you are going to visit Denamrk you absolutely have to try a Fransk Hotdog, it will change your life.

  6. Historically, there's the whole viking age and the Danish evacuation of jews during WWII.

Famous people: H.C. Andersen, Tycho Brahe, Niels Bohr, Vitus Bering, Søren Kierkegaard to name a few.

Living famous Danes that you might be familiar with: Lars Ulrich, Helena Christensen, Mads Mikkelsen, Lars von Trier, Michael Laudrup

Food: Danish bacon, Danish pastry, Danish hotdogs, Danish smørrebrød. Danish cuisine doesn't really have a reputation for being good or any reputation really for that matter, but apart from a few items, which are apparently extremely disgusting to foreigners (liquorice, liverpaste), most are very pleasantly surpriced by Danish food. :)

Other: The Danish flag is to oldest in the world and according to legend it fell from the sky during a battle in Estonia in 1219.

Fun stuff: The Danish word for speed is "f**t". Now, I'm Danish, so don't think it's THAT funny, but my foreign husband, family and friends who are learning Danish find our road signs amusing to no end: "mind your f**t", "f**t-bump", "f**t-police" etc.
