The Decade’s Top Football Strikers – Part 1
This passing decade has produced some of the most talented players in football history and their reputations would surely carry on their names forever.
Strikers are the players up front attacking constantly. These are the ones that the teams and the fans look to for goal-scoring but more often than not, it’s the wingers or the midfielders that net the ball.
The last ten years have witnessed numerous partnerships and have conjured up some deadly duos that almost looked invincible. Not only the goals scored make a striker great, his assists and overall contribution to the team also is important.
It is already a known fact that different players have different modes and methods of play. Some strikers tend to use their sheer pace to get past the opposing team’s defence-line; some use their raw power and physical strength while others are just best
at tricking the defenders and leaving them in disarray as the striker sprints off towards the goal post.
Defenders must be intelligent players that understand the game as well as the workings of the players well if they are to catch these strikers. Meanwhile, the strikers need to be keen as well as they have to avoid the offside traps set by the defenders.
Bettor.com presents you a list of this passing decade's top strikers. This list excludes names such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as they play on the flanks.
-Andriy Shevchenko:
Andriy is from Ukraine who currently plays for Dynamo Kiev. He has also been through some big clubs like Chelsea and AC Milan.
He is one of the most creative players, known to be a terrific goal scorer as well as a play-maker. This player has been a success wonder since the start of his Professional career in football.
The Ukranian was bought by AC Milan for a lot of money and he went on to be a huge success for the club, helping them win numerous Champions League titles.
Shevchenko won the Ballon D’Or award in 2004 and got signed to Chelsea in 2006 but he wasn't much of a success for the Blues. Dynamo Kiev resigned him in 2009.
-Alan Shearer:
Alan was an English player that used to play for the English National side and had also played for clubs such as Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers and Southampton.
Shearer is still recognized by many as one of the best players to have ever played in the English Premier League. The player holds the record of highest goal scorer ever since the foundation of the Premiership.
The Englishman was often called the ‘Complete Striker’ as he played all the roles of a striker magnificently and was a key element of the English National team of his time.
He started his career playing for Southampton only to make a move to the Blackburn Rovers in 1992, where he was a big success. Alan then made a move to Newcastle United and made himself out to be a Newcastle legend. He wore the number nine shirt and took
the team to new heights.
Shearer also had a short run at trying to manage New Castle United in 2009 and managed the team for eight games though as hard as he tried, he could not save them from relegation.
