The Decade’s Top Football Strikers – Part 8
-Michael Owen:
The Englishman, Michael Owen is a key striker for Manchester United. He got there by venturing through clubs like Newcastle United, Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Owen came out of the Liverpool youth academy and is thought to be one of the best that Liverpool has ever produced. He made the starting line up in the first team for the Reds in 1997 and soon made himself a regular in the squad.
The player has some good goal-scoring abilities, strength as well as pace and always keeps an eye for the ball. He made two hundred and ninety seven appearances for the Reds and scored a hundred and fifty eight goals for them.
He was transferred to Los Blancos for a huge transfer fee but the player did not produce his true form with Real Madrid. He then moved to Newcastle United and even that did not work out as the Baggies were relegated in 2009 and Owen was criticized a lot
for that result.
Owen was thwarted with various injuries and he lost his form and pace. Then in 2009, he got transferred to the Red Devils on a free transfer. Michael has had a fruitful international career so far as he has made eighty nine appearances for the Three Lions
and from them has scored forty goals.
He is a player who has been greatly affected by his injuries and they have taken their toll on his career. He was dropped from the 2010 World Cup squad while Fabio Capello still hasn't called him for the Euro 2012 qualifying matches even when Jermain Defoe
has been injured.
So, the player’s international career is in darkness for the time being but he still remains hopeful and waits for a call back to the Three Lions.
-Samuel Eto'o:
Samuel Eto'o is from Cameroon and currently plays for Inter Milan, and has played with Barcelona and Mallorca in the past.
He is the only player that has won the glorious treble in consecutive seasons and he got them from Barcelona and Inter Milan.
Samuel is another one of the grandest strikers of his generation, and his finishes are world famous. He came out of the Los Blancos youth academy but could not secure a spot in the first team and was thus loaned to Espanyol, Malorca and Leganes.
Eto'o had been a creative player for FC Barcelona and also has had some controversial moments at that club. He has two hundred appearances with them while scoring a hundred and thirty goals. The player then made a move to Inter Milan in a swap deal with
Zlatan Ibrahimovic after Barcelona’s Champions League win.
Eto'o is also a regular in the Cameroon National team and was the captain of the team in the 2010 World Cup. He has so far scored fifty goals for the national team and is thought to be one of Africa’s best strikers.
