  1. ya thatis a forward lunge, like the other peeps said, make sure your not dragging your blade because it throws you off balance.so try to just drag your boot not your blade and that should fix the problem of falling over. Lol! my friend did a lunge while going to get off the ice and like fell off onto the ground and i was filming it!!!!lol!!!!!!hope i helped hav fun skatin

  2. Do you mean lunge?

Remember one foot glide?  In order to go in straight line, you have to keep your shoulders and hips level and straight, right?  It's the same with lunge.

Skate forward for speed like you would for a one foot glide, but instead of putting your freeleg knee up, extend the freeleg back, turn your hip out, and keep the leg straight.  Don't lean forward.  You should still be skating in a straight line.

All your weight needs to be on the side you will be bending on.  Keep those shoulders and hips level - and bend that knee to go down.   At the same time, flex your foot (heel out instead of pointing the toe) to make the blade as parallel to the ice as you can . . . then put that freefoot down on the ice to let the inside edge of the BOOT drag.   This bending down and placing the back leg on the ice has to happen in one swoop . . . if it goes too slow, you fight your balance.

The important part:  keep those shoulders and hips level and straight.  If one side goes too high or too low, you might turn on it - or you might shift your weight to make you fall to one side.

Don't lean too forward on purpose.  Have the feeling your are standing up with good posture as you go down and drag . . . keep your chin up . . . the lunge will look nicer!

Now, above I said flex the foot when most say to point the toe.  Sometimes when you tell someone to point the toe, they point the toe "down" towards the ice, and you have a bigger chance of hitting the blade on the ice instead of the boot.  Eventually you can point the toe "out" to get into position, and the flex the foot at the last second.

Speed helps.  Going into it slow on it makes you teeter totter and your lunge won't last as long.

Practice both sides.  Eventually you can try back lunges too . . . then forward to backward (like a lunge 3 turn!) - um, but don't try those just yet.

My friends and I always did lunges right after they zamboni'd the ice when the ice was all nice and slick.  We had lunge contests to see who could hold their lunge the longest.  Oh - fun stuff!!

    Best of luck!!

  3. forward drag,lunge.

try drag the inside of your boot it will make you go in a straight line,if your blade edge goes in the ice to much it will make you turn and loose your balance go low and drag your boot,it will not damage it.

    hope this helps

  4. It sounds like you are talking about a lunge. You don't want your blade to drag, if your blade drags it can cause you to get off balance because the blade wants do to its own thing. Try bending your foot outward more so that you are not dragging your blade, you drag more the inside of your boot on the ice. Good luck and keep practicing!
