‘The Doctor’ Valentino Rossi Returns to MotoGP, Fans Rejoice
Valentino Rossi started this season of MotoGP as a defending champion, and he started well with a victory at Qatar. However, he had his problems at the initial stages of the championship, as his FIAT Yamaha teammate, Jorge Lorenzo, had the lead after the first three races of the season. However, the legendary Italian was hopeful for the top spot as he went for his home Grand Prix at Mugello, Italy. However, fate was not on his side, as he crashed before the race in Mugello, breaking his leg.
After the broken leg, Rossi was immediately taken for surgery, and it was expected that he would not be able to make a return before August 15, in the Czech GP. However, the legendary rider sped up the rehabilitation process with his perseverance and strong will, as he could not wait for a comeback in the racing arena.
Rossi went to Misano for the test ride on the Yamaha Superbike. The test was conducted by the rider and his manager to check the recovery level of Rossi, and to check whether the healing process was going according to schedule. Rossi missed the feeling of being on a bike and wanted to get the taste of adrenaline after almost six weeks of rest following his injury. Although Rossi did report some pain in his shoulders and ankles, there was hope for the fans that he might make an early comeback. It was actually a good run by Rossi in Brno, who looked satisfied with his performance.
Later on, on Thursday, Valentino Rossi decided to make his comeback, after missing four races in a row. The Chief Medical Officer for the German Grand Prix gave a clearance to the legendary Italian, who would now participate at Sachsenring circuit. “The Doctor” has been missed by fans as well as his fellow riders throughout his injury period. His comeback would mean that the rivalry between him and other riders would be alive once again.
During the pre-event press conference, Valentino Rossi entered to the cheers of his fans. He seemed ecstatic to be back on the field and looked in a much better position, both physically and psychologically. Even all the MotoGP riders seemed happy upon his arrival, as Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo expressed their feelings. Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa even expressed their surprise on the speedy recovery of the Champion, and said that this might be yet another record set by the Italian. These youngsters showed their happiness because they believed that Valentino Rossi pushes them to the limits and that racing against him is always a good learning experience. However, his teammate Jorge Lorenzo, also his closest rival in the World of MotoGP, hid his feelings and only expressed slight happiness on his return.
Valentino Rossi would now find himself in a very tough spot, as he has missed a lot of races. Also, right now he is on 61 points, while Jorge Lorenzo is on 165 points. The leader, Jorge Lorenzo, made full use of the absence of Rossi, by winning the last three races in a row. No one was there to challenge the supremacy of the Spaniard, as other bikes and riders could not match the speed of FIAT Yamaha and Lorenzo. Thus, the Spaniard made full use of the opportunity, and is flying high right now. His worst result, in all the seven GPs so far, is a second place finish. This makes him a tougher candidate, who is enjoying a considerable lead at the top. Now, all Lorenzo has to do is to make sure that he finishes ahead of Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso, which would be good enough for him to maintain this kind of lead till the end of the season.
However, Rossi still has a chance, and he has a history of never giving up on anything. On the other hand, Jorge Lorenzo is famous for his unnecessary crashes while coming under pressure. Even during the last season, Lorenzo crashed in Germany, despite leading the race, when Rossi pushed a little hard for the first spot. Right now, the MotoGP fans are rejoicing the return of their favourite “Doctor”. They are also hopeful that Rossi would be able to turn this one-sided season into a two-sided race.
